First Timer - August 25th - August 30th for my 30th Birthday

Hey people :)

As title states, my first time heading over.

Been listening to house music since the age of 11 and now I'm approaching 30 I thought I had better make an appearance over to the the island of music.

Started of listing to DJ's such as Digweed, Sasha, Lee Burridge, Lottie, Paul Woolford, Steve Lawler, Timo Mass, Sven Vath, Dave Clarke, Nick Warren, Seb, Underworld, King Unique, etc. from that you know the background I'm into. My brother and I ran a night in our local town in Northern Ireland bringing local dj's, was fun. Got my first set of turntables at 11 after my bro got a set, Gemini XL100's lol aww the fun I had on them. Moved onto the more sturdy direct drives and then to digital as time progressed.

After falling out of love with dance, my next love of music was 80's, 90's hip hop. That took over for some years until I found the Diynamic Lable by stumbling across a Solomun and David August Mixlab mix. The mixing was ropey in places to say the least haha, but man I was hearing tunes that made me feel young again. EDM had taken over and I wasn't into it, house all night long. So today I am fascinated by the whole Diynamic Crew, Solomun, HOSH, Karmon, Uner, Stimming, NTFO etc.

Anyway that's my background, found this forum and have been reading for a few weeks now. Mainly the Rumors Thread, lol took some time to get through it. Would be cool to get chatting to a few heads who are into the same tunes. Maybe get a beer over there.

McKinney :)

welcome to the forums McK :)

you had a decent education in electronic music it seems ;) and yeah, I think we're in a very interesting period musically right now.

end of august is a great time to come...hordes are just gone but still very busy. a few of the headliners might not be here just because it's burning man time, but it's ibiza, you'll still have plenty of choice in that week.

Thanks for the reply stivi, I see you are the boss man on here and I assume live on the islands?

Yeah music wise the main steam is and always takes over. But sure that's what keeps the clubs going. What dj's, producers are you into?

The date I'm over is mainly due to my birthday on the 26th of August, but timed as well so I can hit Solomun +1 in Pacha, anything else is a bonus. Just looking forward to the experience

ha I'm not the boss no! but I do work for ibiza spotlight and am currently the most active spotlight staff on the forums. and yeah I do live on ibiza.

musically I have a pretty broad spectrum in electronic music I think, but techno's probably what I love most right now.

So my first time in Ibiza write up....

I've been back now for just under two weeks and all I can think about is booking to go again, yesterday I was pricing for the Space closing party but it's just not practical.

Anyway....

We left the north coast of Ireland to drive down to Dublin airport at 12 midnight, approx 2.5hr drive, after being up for work that morning I was shattered and obviously didn't sleep after work cause I was like a kid at Christmas. The tiredness set in once I got checked in and waiting to board. Once on board we noticed the electric atmosphere on the plane, I was not expecting this at all, if anything I had prepared for sleep on the plane, this certainly was not happening. We got sat to this guy who was clearly off his head and coming up like f***. He had a portable music system with him and was blasting out techno at 5am, then the guy in front had one also. These guys then tried to out play each other, drinking vodka straight, their own vodka might I add. This is all before take off. No one on the plane could hear the safety brief. I half expected the cabin crew to tell them to calm it down, this went on during the off and most of the flight. After over an hour I was getting a bit pissed off as the tiredness was really getting to me, so f*** it I hit the drink. If you can't beat them join them.

We arrive at the hotel, Marco Polo 1 around 11am on the Thursday. I was not impressed with the hotel room at all. It was dirty and very dated, was a 3 star but really it was a 2 star in my opinion. But we were not there to lay in the room all day. Went for a walk around san an bay to find our bearings. Got pissed and headed to Destino for Solomun live with undercatt and Rodriguez Jnr. Undercatt where warming up when we landed and it was a lovely slow groove, right up my street. Now this was my first experience of an Ibzian club, head to bar and order two vodka and orange, nearly boked when he asked me for €30 lol thankfully I had a few pick me ups on me. Undercatt played a great set. I hadn't heard much of Jnr before and wasn't really feeling him to much, have since listened back to his set and still feel the same. Solomun came on and well, his opening was quality. Started off slow, picked it up nicely and then got really techie towards the end. Giving me good vibes for him and Hawtin at pacha on the Sunday. In bed for a reasonable time on the first night.

Up sharp the next day feeling fresh. Went to Rita's for breakfast as recommended by many on here. It didn't disopoint. We actually went there every morning. Lay at the pool all day and drank. Good thing about Marco Polo was you can play your own tunes, so guys were plugging in their phones and some good tunes were being played. Better than the local radio station the bar had on before. We had booked the mint lounge for tea this evening, headed there for 6.30 and had a fantastic meal and watched the sunset. It was beautiful and a perfect way to spend my 30th birthday. Again a sensible night and in bed before the early hours.

Saturday consisted of lots of drinks at the pool and some energy drinks. Space was the plan with the tickets already purchased. This kind of went tits up when I fell in with two other Irish lads at 10pm and we ended up getting f***ed and listening to tunes until all hours on the balcony. Kind of regretted it when I came around in the morning but I wasn't there to stick to a plan, I was there to enjoy myself.

By Sunday I was f***ed, hanging real bad. Couldn't get drunk all day or night. Dragged ourselves to Pacha for Solomun and Hawtin. What a night, Solomun picked it up just before Hawtin came on and it was electric from then on. I was starting to feel better once in there and a couple of drinks later ;) this for me was the best night there.

Monday was my last full day, I had already decided to take it semi easy and just hit the drink all day. And this is what happened, in bed for 7pm lol.

Headed away on the Tuesday afternoon not feeling like crap which was a bonus.

There are a few things I would do different, but all in all I had a really good time. I'm hooked. Told my bro if he passed his degree I'd pay for the flights and accommodation for him next summer and we are planning already. Can not wait.

I deff want to return on a non clubbing trip, driving around going from location to location I seen some lovely beaches I'd like to explore. Towns I never got stopped in. This will happen all being well.

Never met a person that's been to Ibiza that's not fallen in love with it.

Plans going out the window is the norm, glad you got that out of the way :-p

Would suggest you hit it a bit harder next time though, sounds like too many early nights to me!!!!! :-o
