So at the ripe of age of 38, I decided it was about time me and Mrs. Greeny visited the White Isle. Our week went a little like this:
Mon: Up at stupid o'clock for a 9am flight from Bristol. Pleasantly surprised both by Ryanair (our first flight with them) and the composition of the passengers. Plenty of large groups of lads/girls but no outlandish drunken behaviour as has been described previously on here. Maybe it was the time or the fact it was a Bank Holiday Monday, but none the less a nice quiet flight.
Flight lands early and amazingly our bag is first off and there are no queues at the taxi rank so we manage to get to our hotel (Jabeque) in under 30 minutes from getting off the plane .
Check in and off to see the sights of PdB. Wander down the promenade to Bora Bora for a bit. We decide to have a late lunch at a seafront restaurant at the end of the beach nearest our hotel.
Back to the hotel to change and then into a cab to DC10 at around 6ish. Good advice on here told us to get there earlyish being our first time. No queues to get in and not that busy when we get there. The music in both rooms is right up our street so we settle in quite quickly. Meet loads of peeps outside, and as has been said on here, lots of people there just because it's DC10 (maybe even us?) - including a hen party that looked way out of place and not that happy about being there?
Anyway a good evening's music/dancing we decide to head off relatively early @ 1am as we'd been up since 6am.
Must mention getting my 'welcome to Ibiza' moment after ordering 2 bottled beers @ 10 euros each. Quickly switch to Vodka Lemon after that mistake!! Never ever order beer in a club!!
Tues: Up early and breakfast on the beach near the hotel again. Lazy day by the pool then off to Bora Bora to see what to do that evening.
I did have grand plans of doing Renaissance @ Pacha but after a being nearly bankrupted by the wife's thirst for Vodka Lemon @ DC10 and b a Space PR thrusting 2 free wristbands in my hand, and not being one to turn down a free night it was off to Space we go for Zouk. Now knowing nothing about Zouk I didn't know what to expect but Layo/Bushwacka and Radio Slave absolutely smashed it. I didn't realise I liked Minimal as much as I did until seeing Radio Slave's set - but I'm now a convert.
Left @ 5.30ish to see in our first Ibiza sunrise - amazing as it comes up over the headland towards Ibiza town.
Wed: After briefly being woken by the maid at 10ish, get the shock of our lives when we finally wake up and discover it's gone 5pm .
Trying to salvage what's left of the day, off to PdB where those nice Space PR's are out again to force some more free wristbands upon us for Be (there's a theme developing here!! I do love a free night out!) So Space it is again. Again, we enjoy the music right up until Sander van Doorn started doing his superstar Trance DJ impression, dropping his own tunes in and waiting for the adoration. Not my thing, but the crowd (mainly Italian and Spanish by the looks of it) loved it. Decided to head on back at about 4ish.
Thurs: Manage to get up at the sprightly time of 11am determined not to waste another day. Unfortunately the sun had other ideas as it was a mainly overcast day so no topping up the tan.
Kehakuma is the one night @ Space that we actually wanted to go to and having to get to the airport relatively early the next day we decide (again) to make use of the wristband which was 15 euros this time but with a free drink. Having decided only to stay a couple of hours I end up dragging my techno loving wife out of there after 3am as we HAVE to get up and pack to go home early Friday!!
Friday: Somehow manage to get up, pack and get to the airport with plenty of time before our flight. Nearly the same composition of passengers on the plane, but plenty looking like they'd come straight from whichever drinking establishment/club they'd left that morning
Now, Friday in Bristol was a very windy affair and we'd been warned by the Captain of this. But, and a big BUT, I have never had such a hairy landing as the one we had. Women and children screaming and crying, grown men grasping anything to be sick into. It was like one of those 'World's Worst Landings' viral videos on the net. At one point, I really didn't think we were going to make it down, but kudos to the Captain/computers as we touched down to rapturous applause
So there you have it, our first visit to Ibiza. I'm a little disappointed we didn't get out of PdB but in the end we didn't need to. They'll be other visits to explore the island - maybe out of season with the kids.
Somehow our 38 year old bodies managed 4 nights clubbing on the bounce. Even though 3 of them were @ Space, with the variety of music on offer it didn't really matter. We've decided that 4 in a row is too much though - but it was nice to find out we could do it
We were pleasantly surprised about the cosmopolitan nature of PdB. It seemed that the Brit's were heavily outnumbered in PdB from all the amazing friendly people we met wandering around the hotel/PdB/Bora Bora/Space. This may not be the case but it's definately not a bad thing.
It's true what everyone has always told me about Ibiza. It's an amazing place full of amazing people. There truly is nowhere like it that I've ever been before.
Back in not so sunny UK, we've already booked to come back in September so we can do a We Love and see Space fully open.
Can't wait
