Thursday 25th July - Epic Sunset
The usual daily wake up routine, around about the usual time. Get up, freshen up, pop a berocca and slam down a protein shake
By the time everyone was ready it must have between 3-4. Some of the lads weren't feeling the best so we said we'd give Bora Bora a miss and check out if there were any beaches close by to relax in the sun, as the pool was too busy for all of us to chill. We walked down in the direction of the Sunset Strip and I bought a beach towel and a pair of sunglasses
Before we got near a beach we noticed like some wooden decks near some water activities which some people seemed to be laying on so we thought f*ck it, we'll flake here in the sun. 2 of us got down there and the other 2 went back to the room. We just chilled in the sun and got chatting to some girls who were going to see Richie Hawtin. Apparently he was having a free party at San An beach? After about an hour or so the 2 lads came back to us. It was probably about 5ish and we decided to go for a walk.
Walked down along the sunset strip, down by mambo and I fancied a drink. We saw some small, open bar that advertised beer for 1euro so we thought we'd stop in there. Sat there and had a few bottles of magners and a tuna sambo
Soon after we headed back up towards the apartment I think.
I was determined to get the lads down to Mambo again for the sunset. We must of only been in the apartment an hour, and we headed down early enough for the sunset, stopping in the shop to buy some drink on the way. The sky was clear this night. The music in the background was so laid back and chilled. I remember this version of "Get Lucky", which for the life of me have not been able to find, being played as the rocks started to fill and the sun got lower. Probably one of my favourite things about Ibiza
Everyone was kicking back, having a few drinks, waiting for the sunset, all on the same page. The DJ puts on the final song for the sunset, the scene is set, half the sun still above water, the parachute in the sky, the boat sailing through the half sun, until it finally sets. The whole strip stands to applaud and whistle and cheer. Magical moment.
Soon after, I think it was the Pacha pre party which began. I can't remember who was playing that night. We stayed for a bit to finish our drinks before heading back to the apartment where 1 of the lads had stayed in.
We got back and decided to go downstairs for something to eat. I think we had gotten our tickets for Cream @ Amnesia the day before off the rep. Anyway, at dinner I suggested we get a bottle of red wine, because wine gets you drunk fairly well.
Having eaten, we went back up to the room to start showering, getting ready, et al. Must of been 11-12ish. I'm not too sure. Had also decided to stick to the drink that night to give my lips/jaw a rest
By the time we finally left, after waiting on 1 of the lads for easily an hour, it was about 2am. The taxi rank was quite full and there were illegal taxi men poaching. One was saying 40euro, to which I said we'd take one for 20 and we finally met half way. Closing on 2:30am will finally arrived. The driver was actually pretty cool, think he was serbian. About to leave he said he had some <3s to which I was seriously considering as I sat in the back of the car. The moment passed and we just paid and got out.
We had been told that our tickets were Q jump tickets but when we got there, it was not the case. I think it may just be down to the fact it was so busy. The Q was quite big and I think it was already filled inside. Suddenly there was a rush and the Q dispersed inside into the terrace. I felt almost sober by now and was kicking myself for not taking the man up on his offer of <3s. As we got in, we entered right beside the DJ booth where Burns was playing. 2 of us decided try head up to the bar to get some more alcohol in. The place was so rammed it was hard to move. The heat was unbearable. By the time we got to the bar, I had changed my mind and set out to buy 2 bottles of water. The wait at the bar was even long. Finally when the 2 of us got our water, we were right beside the dance floor so just strolled on. After a couple of mins I got a text to say the other 2 had left because it was too busy.
Not long in, and then Burns went off and Calvin Harris came on. Now, I'm not a big Calvin Harris fan, and the line up in general for Cream doesn't excite me, but I have to say he had the Terrace rocking. He didn't play so many of his commercial hits. I was actually impressed with Cream. The lighting was pretty amazing, the sea of people having a good time, everyone just "on it". Actually quite enjoyed Calvin Harris and was looking forward to Hardwell coming on, as I had seen him before and enjoyed it. To my disappoint though he never came on. Don't know why but Fedde Le Grand came on after Calvin Harris, and I had only seen him the night before. One thing though which I remember, everyone parting as a guy in a wheelchair descended upon the dance floor. Also, the people on the VIP balcony were definitely throwing drink at us! I remember tasting bulmers lol
Around about 5:30 the 2 of us decided to leave. With the lighting and dancing all night we left almost stumbling. We thought we'd get out before closing to beat the rush, and we had already seen Fedde anyway. There was still quite a Q outside but we waited no more than 5mins and hopped in a taxi with 2 brummy lads back to San An.
We got dropped off at the Egg and were unsure whether the lads were back at the apartment or out on the West End. It was coming on 6 anyway and thought everywhere shutting up soon and we just head back. The lads were still out but came in only about 5mins behind us. They were in Play2 the night and then hit a strip club. Couldn't get 1 to shut up and I left to go to bed and let him torment the others. A good night in Cream though!
