I was back in Ibiza after a brief return to work life last week.
Thursday, 18 August:
Flights from CDG-BCN and from BCN-IBZ were miraculously on time and no hiccups (thanks Air France and Air Nostrum!). Drive from airport to villa in Es Cubells was jolted and my return to the magical island was saddened by the body that lay in the middle of the Eivissa - Sant Josep road near KM5, covered by a white sheet. A 69-year old Spanish woman was hit and killed as she tried to cross the road shortly after nightfall. Ruined my evening - didn't feel like going out.
Friday, 19 August
Horrible weather for my final days. Really didn't do too much during the day (what can one do without sun!). Went for a shockingly horrible and expensive dinner at Las Dos Lunas - first time I was there and likely to be the last! We then went to an evening at Can Atxaro near Sant Joan. What a trippy (and beautiful) place that is: the new spa looks like it belongs more in Bali than in Ibiza. Place was jammed with the usual El Ayoun/KM5/artsy fartsy crowd. Impossible to get a drink though - staff completely overwhelmed.
Saturday, 20 August
Skies started to clear - a bit. Had lunch at Es Torrents -my favourite beach restaurant on the island. Excellent fish and cava sangria. Lazed around the beach rest of afternoon. Left the villa and dropped last of the group off at ferry and checked myself in at Hotel Pikes (alone!). Had to be the smallest hotel room I had ever had! I kept bumping my head, elbows, toes (ouch!) into furniture, beams, my suitcase. Can't recommend the hotel - but the staff is really nice. Had a great massage by Balthazar! That evening it was off to dinner with friends at La Ventana - great meal again - and quite relaxing on the quiet terrace in Dalt Vila.
Sunday, 21 August
Sun is out! Hung around the pool at Pikes. Left for Space around 20h00 arriving shortly before 20h30 and met up with friends. Space was alot more crowded than on previous Sundays - and the crowd much more up for having a great time! There was a strange curtain/huge screen over the DJ booth in the Discoteca that was raised around 22h00. Groove Armada was fine - I love when the play Strings of Life - crowd goes bezerk! Is it just me or do the devoted clubbers flee Space the first two weeks of August and reappear ones the 'tourists' have started to leave? Much better crowd, but still a bit wierd compared to previous years. It could also just have been me - sad that this was my last night out, sad that most of my friends were back home in Brazil, Argentina, France and the US, sad that in a few days I would be back to work!
Monday, 22 August
Up early. Conference calls on my cellphone. Work is beginning. Sun is out in force and I have to pack up for my 14h00 back to Paris! Sad to leave and a strange, un-Ibiza final weekend full of nostalgia, clouds, a bit of rain and a death.
Now back in a rainy, grey Paris. I'll be back for Space closing weekend 30 September - 3 October!
