Festivals Vs Ibiza

Do you think Ibiza will be busy as last year. Not sure if it is me or there seem to be alot of festivals or one off parties going on and they seem to be much cheaper than Ibiza. Same DJs that play there are playing in Ibiza. I wonder if people might decide to go there instead of going this year. This year seems like it will be an amazing year to be fair.

I personally am tempted to go to the festivals but when I think about it I would rather go Ibiza 2 or 3 times a year and by the time I do that dont have money for anything else ha..saying that I do want to try kappur or timewarp next year and do Ibiza at least one time

1 day at a festival does me.. in and out.. when the kids were younger we used to bring them to some in ireland Electric picnic and body&soul and I was lucky that I never had to buy tickets as good mate works for body&soul he always sorted me out..if you go to see dj or band you are usually disappointed shit sound, trying to find tent/stage and short sets. But if you just go with the flow and float around chatting to randoms you can have a great time.. got tickets for the Monday at forbidden fruit in dublin Bon Iver:)

Not really my cup of tea (Flying Lotus) and i could be wrong but going off what you seem to post on here i think you might like

small festivals for say 500-600 in the middle of nowhere are amazing if the setup, people and atmosphere are right - just thinking about them makes me homesick, as that intimate kind of vibe is hard to find in Spain.

I've been to a few one-dayers which I just can't get into - the camping aspect and green fields are a large part of the fun

I went to a daytime thing in Barcelona called SoundEat yesterday which was basically Foals, Detroit Swindle djing and some mexican food vans in a hard concrete space near the Forum by the sea and I just hated it from the start. Anywhere that gives you a choice between Budweiser and Budweiser on tap is taking the piss. But unfortunately that is the way everything is heading - shut down at 10.30pm and no angry neighbours to worry about in small hours...

i doubt many go to ibz exclusively for specific DJs though - not as though you have those beaches in hackney carparks

Can't comment about festivals that much as haven't been to one since early homelands, Gatecrashers and global gatherings.

I know I prefer to see my favourite djs in club setting rather than a bigger production.

I really don't like the long wait for the bag searches, car parks, drinks tokens, drinks line and bollock that come with festivals.

I think a small festival such as the zoo project is about enough for the right vibe.

I have been to a few festivals and must say it's completely different from clubbing in ibiza. I love festivals for variety and open air / nature setting. I love clubbing in ibiza for amazing sound systems and awesome crowd and vibe.

Some of my favourite festivals that I would recommend is lost and found in Malta, love saves the day in Bristol, parklife in Manchester.

Lost and found in Malta is amazing, great line up and awesome parties from pool parties to castle raves and the main festival in numero uno open air club in the middle of fields. Plus Malta is beautiful.

For ultimate festival experiences you got glastonbury. It's like loads of different festivals combined into one. You have loads of different areas each with their own stages and set up, design/theme and music style. It's epic.

This year going to check out junction 2 which I'm really looking forward to. Line up is quality and reviews from last year are amazing.

I get the appeal of festivals but i mean you are gonna miss a lot of those DJs since you can only be at one stage at a time. Still I guess it's a lot cheaper tho and outdoor environment can't be beat!

I just can't get away from the iconic clubs and more international scene of Ibiza. Also, Ibiza still dictates trends in the scene, and is therefore the centre of this whole thing.

Yes ibiza has this magic that draws me back in!

I went to Ultra Music Festival in Miami for the first time a few weeks ago, and have to say, Resistance was AWESOME. Both the Megastructure and Arcadia were great - great people, top house/techno DJs, and loud, clear sound systems (Funktion One I think?).

But... it finished at 12am. Right when I was getting warmed up. Sure, continue in a club afterwards, but it'll take you an hour or two to exit the festival, go to hotel, get changed into posh clothes, and then get to a half decent club... complete buzz killer.

For me, Ultra was one of my favourite modern-time festivals, and Miami is fantastic, but it can't compete with Ibiza, there are just too many reasons to list!

Agree re those stages at Ultra but I thought the festival was a bit crap to be honest. If you want comparable but better give Tomorrowland a go.

For me Ibiza every time. Festivals are fun but I never really get into them. Usually too many idiots, to much time walking around and short DJ sets

During Sasha & Digweed, there was a massive rain storm ... and lots of main stager types were taking shelter in the Megastructure. It was a really nice feeling to see the EDM crowd getting sucked into some half decent techno/house and realizing there is more to life than "everybody scream ... put your hands in the air !!!".

I think I spent about 10 minutes at the main stage all weekend, and that was during Martin Garrix to keep my wife happy ... what a load of shite. Ugh.

I hate branded events where you're herded around like sheep

and drinks tokens and vans selling quinoa can fk right off

but they know they can get away with it, because there aren't as many options elsewhere as there used to be

also worth remembering the authorities will always encourage regimented daytime events over clubs because they are so much easier to control - that is the real reason they are flourishing

the real people - who live and breathe the clubs are under constant attack, which means having to be ever more creative locating good party spaces

The one-dayers or weekenders with no camping have risen to prominence in and around London recently. This typically means bearable or poor sound and inevitably a far higher ticket price than to go clubbing even though the event lasts about the same amount of time.

I'm pretty sure I know why promoters justify the higher prices (because they can get away with it / more performers means you pay more) but why do punters put up with it? You can only be in one place at a time so miss the vast majority of performances anyway yet you're paying for them.

Give me a couple of rooms in a nightclub with a tailored soundsystem and extended sets over that every time.

I would disagree, lots of festivals are expensive but you cant say they last the same time as a club night. Any festival is at least 11 hours long and most clubs will not be open longer than 7/8 hours. If you wait to get your tickets yeah the prices rise but most first release tickets are around £30 and any big London club will be charging £20+ at least.

With regards to everything else have you been to Junction 2? Sound system was not bad at all, Venue was one of the best locations I have ever been and in terms of ticket prices my ticket cost £27. For £27 I got 11 hours of music, spread over 3 great stages with a whole host of amazing artists and a whole day out in the sun with all my mates! 2 hours was the minimum set time and only 4/5 DJs per stage. So I would say that is not bad value at all.

Over the last few years I have done a different festival usually somewhere in Europe. I'm fortunate that finances allow a yearly trip to Ibiza and also a few weekends away or another holiday. So I try to get in a festival that offers something different music wise. Over the last few years I have done Sonar in Barcelona, Giles Petersons Worldwide Festival in Sete, ATP festival in Reykjavik, Primavera Sound in Barcelona. I even went to Lollapalooza in USA a few years ago. All of these offer a much broader range of artists than you would get in Ibiza, so I get to experience loads of great music and travel to some cool places too. This year I am giving Suncebeat in Croatia a try. So for me festivals are about seeing/hearing a wider variety of music.

On a side note, referring to the many destinations being cheaper than Ibiza point. I've found that European dates on bands tours to be far more cost effective than the UK especially London. A few times I have bought cheaper event tickets and It's often cheaper and quicker to fly from here in Bristol to somewhere like Berlin or Amsterdam than it is to travel by train to London. Plus it's more of an adventure if you visit a new city.
