i'm arguing the toss here but is moscow a world city??

i thought the classic definition of a world city only included paris, london, NYC and tokyo

Perhaps I'm biased living here, but....

It is bigger than London or Paris. It's open 24 hours a day, unlike London, Paris or NYC. It's got people from all over the world (though perhaps not as many "Westerners"). Plus it's got more money than Paris or Tokyo (if you look at the number of super-rich). I'd put it on the list...

they are not the only "world city's" what about Dubai that's a world city, it's also probably the most cosmopolitan city on the planet, Paris, Berlin,Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc the list goes on.

Oops.. forgot Berlin on my list. Will go back and add that now.

You're somewhat right, Jonny... Tokyo probably fits the bill in terms of what I mean. I just haven't been there yet. Maybe Hong Kong too...

(and why don't you people go pick on somebody else's list! it's just my opinions based on where I've been!)

see as much as Tokyo is a big city...in regards to 'world' cities, its all very much Japanese, whereas London nd New York are much more multi-cultural

Moscow is quite multi-cultural, but a lot of that is a legacy of the multi-cultural Soviet empire and the countries with which the Soviets curried favor (from India to Africa).

But Tokyo is an international business center, much like London, New York and Moscow. And yes, Moscow is on that list... several of the world's top ten metals and energy companies are here, though it's still up-and-coming on the financial markets side. Tokyo's got finance and manufacturing. London and New York are the world's financial capitals.

Cities I love/could live in: New York, Rio De Janeiro, Rome, Madrid, London, Dublin

Other favorites, that I wouldn't want to live in for more than a year:
Jerusalem, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Prague.
