At least she wasn't as much of a dick as kanye west who has cemented himself in my mind as probably the biggest tool in the entire world after his stunt at MTV Europe awards. Bleugh.

She's a country music singer (obviously, since it's the Country Music Awards). Carrie Underwood. She won that American Idol show a couple of years ago.

Not to go off subject, but that dude got hosed in his pre-nup. You would think that he would have read the contract, but they don't call him Cletus for nothing!!!!

Is there a big gap between "Country" America and mainstream America? I mean, Carrie Underwood hasn't really hit it big in the normal charts has she, yet she seems to be huge in the country charts.

i've always wondered about this, would you say it's like two different ways of life, like living in the country or living in the towns.

And whereabouts is the country part of America? Is it down south?

Sorry for the 100 questions but its something that puzzles me... its like there's two totally different walks of life living in the same country :?
 
It's a very large country! You've got a broad variety of music styles across the States, many of which originated there (jazz, rock, blues, country). And lots of different lifestyles (life in the Northeast is very different than the South or Northwest, etc... and different music styles can be more prevalent)

I would say, yes, country music is most popular in the south and the southwest. But you'll find one country radio station on the dial even in some cities in other parts of the nation (I remember there was one in Washington)

There are enough people who like country, and few enough major artists, that a really big country album will hit the top echelons of the Billboard album charts. This should not be taken to mean that everyone listens to country music though... you usually won't find country songs on a pop radio channel.

There are artists that crossover into pop, of course... people like Shania Twain (who's actually Canadian) and, to some degree, Faith Hill.
