fabric mix series

Hi all,

Looking to fill some gaps in my collection prior to travelling.

What recommendations do people have prior to 2014?

My preference would be techno or tech house. All suggestions welcome.

The Jacques Lu Cont one was a masterclass - everything from house to filmscores to eurythmics. The most memorable one i've heard

On a more conventional techy tip, digweed's was very good too - dark/druggy and a million miles from his swooshy 90s prog sound - the sort of stuff i used to hear francis/richards play on saturdays

Rate the michael mayer and bent ones too

To be avoided - global communication, rob da bank - zzz

Thanks @Shady South American

The Digweed offering was on my list of potentials before I thought about asking the question. Your description has pretty much nailed on I'll now get this! Cheers

For me, I think my personal favourites have all been fabriclive releases, so maybe not what you are exactly after, but anyway....

Bent
Howie B
Adam Freeland

I echo Michael Meyer...also Craig Richards Fabric 01 is really good as is his later mix as "The Nothing Special". Carl Craig, Ellen Alien, Luciano, Robert Hood might also tickle your fancy.

My faves are Omar S, Villalobos, and Levon Vincent from the Fabric series.

If you are after a "curve-ball" so to speak, check Optimo (Espacio), Rub n Tug, The Amalgamation of Soundz, Tony Humphries, and Bugz in the Attic, John Peel, Bent, Aim, Nitin Sawney and Adam Freeland are all good from Fabric Live.

I find with fabric mixes its always good to take something in that you wouldn't normally listen to and often you'll discover something you'll love. Would never have come across the Aim or Bugz in the Attic mixes otherwise and I still listen to those now.

My favorite Fabric Live mix is Four Tet's, not quite the music type that you are looking for but some really interesting tracks mixed really really well.

I bought a load as they had a deal on.

Marcel Dettman's is pretty interesting, and I quite enjoyed the Radio Slave mix.

Some of them are a bit random to be honest....

Thanks everyone. Dettmann's is one of my most recent favs. I like Four Tet in general, so that is another potential.

I recently took advantage of the 16 Fabric CD's for £16. Some decent picks but some absolute turkeys. If I wasn't a hoarder of CD's Freq Nasty and Toddla T would be going straight in the bin. Utter garbage who the hell let them provide mixes!

I also got Steve Bugs mix in the case for Rob Hood? Was grooving along thinking this is mellow for Rob then checked the CD.

Out of the 16 Levon Vincent and Hipp-E and Halo stand out.

All time favourite Fabric mix is Doc Martin or Carl Craig. Two mixes that got smashed out a lot in my Uni days.

I used to be a member so would get the new CD whenever they came out. This was pre-streaming, so everything would get a proper listen, just like you did with albums in the old days. This meant I listened and got to like a lot of stuff I would never have bothered with before. The Marcus Intalex FabricLive is superb and I still listen to that now.

Going back even further, back in the very old days, you'd record a load of music on a cassette and play to death on your Walkman :)

Now days there is so much musical content available. Even when I get the train I'm streaming something and so consequently a lot of stuff I just don't give the time of day to, or I listen once and never go back to, which is a shame as I'm sure I'm missing out on bits. That said, could never see myself ever bothering with Toddla T though
