Everyone should go by land to Ibiza

They got me worried for a while. For a while I was considering if I should cancel my flight and drive to the Island with my motorcycle. Would've been about 300 euros more expensive than the flights.

I think you need to do that. Every one should go by land to Ibiza - just to see how far away it really is.
Has anyone cycled or walked there?

The trip would be basically 3000 km from my home to Ibiza. That doesn't include two ferries that I should take, from turku to stockholm and from barcelona to ibiza. Basically driving 3000 in three days would be fun. And then back again. Plus, I would save a loads of money on the island because I could use my own bike and not using taxis and busses and all that.

There might also be option to take a semi-friends VW-mini-bus and take let's say 7 passangers. It's diesel so fuel is cheap. If every one would take 3 hour turns to drive the thing through sweden, denmark, holland, germany and france, ending up in Barcelona, the trip might take about one day and some extra hours, ok, propably about 26 hours, constant driving. Fuel cost would be about 800 euros from here to there and back again. Meaning a price per person 100 euros. Flight costs from here to there again would be from 350 to 500 euros. So you would save a loads of money by doing a relatively fun road trip.

Not all that far from retirement now, so was thinking of having a treat and, instead of flying to Ibiza/Formentera, doing it by rail and ferry, first class all the way down and back, so that would be train to London, Eurostar to Paris, the overnight Trein/Hotel to Barcelona, ferry to Ibiza, ferry to Formentera and a few luxury days all to myself, and then back again!

So, leaving home to landing on Formentera would be around 30 hours, te biggest difficulty migt be the timings of the ferries from Barcelona to Ibiza, which I might cheat and fly from Barcelona!

If your retiring why not cycle? All European trains take cycles, and cycling though south France with the tree lined roads is wonderful. Best in the spring and early summer.

I was thinking going via Denia. My route would be ferry from Portsmouth to Santander; then to Madrid by HST (high speed train); then Alicanti by train; then Denia by tram; then ferry to San Antonio.

I've thought of using Denia as an escape route to the mainland should there be any strikes etc at the airport. But been put off by there notbeing a train route to Alicante, but you mentioned a tram route. Tell me more!
