today i've been in the extremely picuresque valley of es broll, which is in the santa ines/buscastell area to the north east of san antonio.
originally an arabic settlement, it still retains its moorish legacy in the form of a valley length irrigation system which still functions today.
It keeps the valley lush and green, even in summer, and the sound of burbling water passing along the channels and splashing into the various pools and storage 'tanks' is both unusual for the island, and relaxing.
the valley was so green - and so quiet. Apart from the bullfrogs calling away in the reads down below and the birds singing merrily away, there wasn't another sound. i stopped on a bend in the track and i could hear a tiny fieldmouse to-ing and fro-ing about his hole in the drystone wall and the undergrowth
es broll is situated on the road from san rafael to santa ines. make a right after the bar/art gallery can tixedo at the signpost for pou de escarabata.
