El Divino opening - Didn't these guys hear of queue control?

Girlfriend and I just had to go to the opening last friday, but man no one told us what a rugby scrum it was likely to be to actually get into the club! Queued for at least an hour from about 2am... being crushed up against everyone else in the queue for at least half that time! Never seen anything like it at any of the other ibiza venues... Is it like that always on busy nights? If so I'll be giving the club a miss unless I can wangle VIP entry next time. Can't even imagine doing that in 30C august nighttime heat... They could learn a little from Alton towers or disney perhaps and put in place some kinda queue system :)

Anyway that put us on a bit of a downer, so when we finally got in the club and queued at the bar for a good 20 minutes that wasn't much fun either! Second drink took about 30 minutes. 3rd drink we gave up in disgust after a good 50 minutes at the bar and went home. Real shame as it spoilt what would otherwise have been a great night. Oh well you lives and learns.

Met some nice people in the queue though. Quite a number of americans and canadians had made the effort for the opening party. Perhaps a sign of things to come on the isle. No evidence whatsoever of fashion police, which was a shame as we'd made a special effort to look good, and the rest of the place seemed pretty much like any UK chav hang out for the most part!

Anyone else on the forums actually go? And what did you think of it all?

Rest of our trip was fantastic though as we didn't go for the clubbing, just for chilling and nice meals :) (Aside from the obligatory 1 night of getting mullered in the west end  )

Had the same problem last year and when you finally get in you have to que ages for a drink......and then its so packed you cant move.......and your right.....everybody in scruffy jeans and tee shirts. .....

i went to el divino opening about 3 years ago...was fine - no massive queue (although we did get there a bit earlier than 2am) and not really too bad at the bar.

great night really - better than other nights i have had there. guess the bouncers were just being bell ends this time round.

Nah I don't blame the bouncers really. They had to keep the crowds back to let a trickle of people into the club otherwise people could have got hurt on the steps on the way in. It was really bum to crotch stuff at the front of the queue! (Which I couldn't properly enjoy being with the girlfriend but never mind :p )

Getting in early might have been a better idea. Also inside the club it wasn't all that packed. Certainly easier to get around that rammed amnesia nights I've been to in the past.

They were pretty oversubscribed. I tried to go around 3am but encountered this:

There's another shot in the review above: http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/reviews/2005/prem_i.htm

I think we were in that first picture or thereabouts! The black chap looks familiar! Can't spot us though :)

Met an *awful* lot of people in the queue with no tickets (hen party from the UK and a bunch of canadians). Saw the canadians in the club, but didn't spot any of the girls from the hen party. Was surprised with that queue there were any tickets on the door at all...

Best check that review link. My impressions were the crowd weren't as "up for it" as other events I've been too. But then again the music wasn't really quite my thing either.

I went to the opening party. The queue was out of control. I too was surprised that they were selling tickets at the door... Are all the parties in Ibiza that crowded?

No, not every gig is. But things do seem to be getting busier. It used to be one party on any given night was rammed, but now there's at least two. Tho on Mondays from July Manumission @ Privilege, Cocoon @ Amnesia and Release Yourself (Roger Sanchez) @ Pacha are all likely to be very busy.

Smaller venues like El Divino can get mobbed. I guess that's how they become bigger venues. Then one day you discover someone's built the world's biggest night club in your village...

Btw is there anybody here who lives in San Rafael :?:

Having said that, inside El Divino wasn't all that bad. The queue was a nightmare but you could still get around the club once inside.

I recall 4 years ago going to some night at Amnesia (can't recall which), and it was utterly and completely and in my opinion dangerously rammed.

Took me 40 minutes to leave the dance floor, get to the loos, and get back to my friends! Great atmosphere and music but just too crowded for me to relax and have a good time. "Chill out" area did have some room, but too many dodgy geezers attempting to pick pockets of people who were out of it! Saw it tried a couple of times including to a friend of mine. Haven't been back since, but I really should as I'm sure that was just a bit of a bad night.
