This year, the White Island celebrates the XII edition of Ibiza's Medieval Market on May 6-8. Considered by many as the third most important medieval market in Spain, this event commemorates every year the naming of Dalt Vila as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The fortified city and its surroundings will go back in time to become a medieval market with nobles, knights in shining armor, dragons and jesters strolling around a labyrinth of cobbled streets while all kinds of actors, comedians and artists perform scenes from medieval times. Far-out characters attract the public's attention with street shows, fire tricks, dance and comedy while thousands of spectators get a taste of traditional products and an up-close look at the island's customs thanks to the craftspeople who showcase their esparto, pottery and fabric products or their production of musical instruments. Music, shops, workshops, oracles, processions, weddings, Grandma's culinary delights, oriental baked goods, Moorish culture…We would like to invite all our guests staying in any of the Fiesta Hotel Group Hotels and Resorts in Ibiza to visit this “One Thousand and One Nights” dreamlike world right in the heart of the old historic district of Eivissa.

Medieval Fair

The twelfth edition of the popular Medieval Fair will be held this weekend, on the 6th, 7th and 8th of May in the historic centre of Ibiza town. The event will begin on Friday at 11.00 a.m. in the Reina Sofia Park, with a show involving various different artists and groups: it will be repeated again at 10.30 p.m. in the evening. This venue allows for a larger audience to enjoy the spectacle, as until last year it was staged in the smaller area in front of the main entrance to the Old Town, the Portal de ses Taules, which is above the old fruit and vegetable market.

The fun will continue over the weekend with the Carros de Foc (Chariots of Fire) company performing on Saturday evening. Their show ‘Natural Spirit' includes acrobats and pyrotechnics to combat the evil forces in the world; naturally the good eventually overcomes the bad.

Horses from Menorca will be performing during the day, with their riders exhibiting their skills in the Plaza del Parque, both in the morning and again in the afternoon. Local artisans will be displaying their wares in the Plaza de sa Font, together with different species of animals endemic to the island. The old market and es Polvorí will house areas to entertain younger family members, and there will be puppet shows for the young and old alike. Street entertainers will abound in the lanes and open spaces of Dalt Vila.

Many musicians will be performing, including a recital by the Conservatory on the Saturday evening at 9.30 p.m. in the Cathedral. The Municipal Band will be making themselves heard in the old market square at 12 noon on Sunday morning.

Additionally Arab dancers will be performing in the Santa Llúcia fortress on both Friday and Saturday evenings, with a show entitled “Eastern Nights”. Meanwhile on Sunday evening it is the turn of ballerina, Zorach, to display the “Magic of the Seven Worlds”.
During the three day extravaganza entrance to all the museums, fortresses and Cathedral is free.

As in previous editions, there will be a free bus service to ferry visitors from the large out-of-town car parks to the principal venues. On this subject the mayor of Ibiza Town, Lurdes Costa, has asked for the collaboration of visitors not to attempt to drive to the centre, as most of the access roads will be traffic-free for the three day event.
