Apparently , recent work on the airport frontage has seen the front of the building clad and the iconic "Eivissa Ibiza" sign removed. No idea if it will be re-fitted but indeed a sad loss :-(

have a look at the new defected vid in the club news section, there you'll see the work in progress.

also hope they put the sign back once they're finished! :(:(:(

Ibiza-Eivissa Sign

Anyone who's been to other ‘competing' resorts will understand the need for Ibiza to develop as a modern tourist location. Others, such as Mallorca and Tenerife, have spent countless millions on infrastructure improvements, and Ibiza has to stay abreast. With this in mind, I'm all in favour of Ibiza's motorway development, construction of new five star hotels, paseos in San Antonio etc etc.

However... Who on earth decided that the iconic frontage of Ibiza Airport needed to be completely covered-over with the bland metallic frontage currently under construction? Somebody from AENA on the mainland with little or nothing to do with Ibiza, I'd suspect.

General airport redevelopment- yes! New air-bridges, airport shops, check-in areas etc – yes! But, the destruction of arguably Europe's best-recognised airport frontage... One that has appeared in countless music videos- why the hell?

I know hundreds of Ibiza visitors personally who have had their photos taken in front of the ‘Ibiza Eivissa' sign. Countless more have this as their final holiday snap before jumping on the plane back home.

What a bland end to the holiday the airport will be. Thanks AENA (Spanish Airports Authority...)

So sad...But when you see the state of dalt vila...In Ibiza building more and more is easyer than keeping old good things in good state...

End of a golden era for Dance Music and a particular generation of people.

The removal of such an iconic symbol may offer a dignified approach for me to gracefully retire from the clubbing scene in Ibiza......... with no regrets.8)

Might end up calling it Palma Airport Terminal 2 :( - although that would suit O'Leary (Ryancouldn'tcAre) down to the ground. Wanna go to Mallorca? Drop you off at Palma 2, and then it's just a short swim.....

Anyway, one of the things I love about Ibiza Airport (apart from arriving) is when leaving, I can watch the buses on their way home from Salinas beach, especially if it's a late flight watching the last bus back. Talk about bursting into tears....

i was there last friday and monday did`nt notice if the sign was missing, lots of work goin on there...airport was really quite.we landed at 4pm and were in our hotel by 4:40.

Not the end of the world but a defo big loss to Ibiza... that sign was iconic. Really hope they have taken it down just for the renos and will put it back up once finished.

They "might" still put the sign back up on the grey frontage , but will have to wait and see. Shame to see it go, but nice to read about the improvements.

i really do hope they put it back up, i no its not the end of the world but i just love the feeling i get when i walk out of the airport and see the sign, makes me feel at home

A friend flew in earlier this week and said there was no hint of the sign, you would have thought that if it was going to be put back, it would be back up in time for the IMS

:-(
