Ibiza-Eivissa Sign
Anyone who's been to other ‘competing' resorts will understand the need for Ibiza to develop as a modern tourist location. Others, such as Mallorca and Tenerife, have spent countless millions on infrastructure improvements, and Ibiza has to stay abreast. With this in mind, I'm all in favour of Ibiza's motorway development, construction of new five star hotels, paseos in San Antonio etc etc.
However... Who on earth decided that the iconic frontage of Ibiza Airport needed to be completely covered-over with the bland metallic frontage currently under construction? Somebody from AENA on the mainland with little or nothing to do with Ibiza, I'd suspect.
General airport redevelopment- yes! New air-bridges, airport shops, check-in areas etc – yes! But, the destruction of arguably Europe's best-recognised airport frontage... One that has appeared in countless music videos- why the hell?
I know hundreds of Ibiza visitors personally who have had their photos taken in front of the ‘Ibiza Eivissa' sign. Countless more have this as their final holiday snap before jumping on the plane back home.
What a bland end to the holiday the airport will be. Thanks AENA (Spanish Airports Authority...)
