COMING TO IBIZA NEXT WEEK WITH MY FAMILY, ARE THERE ANY EASTER FESTIVITIES, CARNAVALS ECT THAT WE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR? ALSO ARE ANY OF THE SHOPS/SUPERMARKETS OPEN OVER THE EASTER WEEKEND OR SHOULD WE STOCK UP.

easter is a time for religious processions. santa eulalia and ibiza town are the main ones. the bank holidays are the thursday and friday when the shops will be closed - but easter monday is not a holiday here.

Easter Celebrations.
The 5 religious groups on the island which hold parades at Easter are planning for the first time ever to stage a parade on the Wednesday before Easter. Starting at 21h, the parade will leave the Santa Cruz church in Ibiza Town & march all the way to the Cathedral in Ibiza Old Town. The 5 groups known as "Cofradias" will all wear a military type dress uniform & gloves. They will carry banners identifying their group & be accompanied by a marching band.
On Palm Sunday there will be a special service featuring the "Cofradias" in the Cathedral & at 21h there will be a concert by the Ibiza Town Choir & the Town Orchestra. Good Friday will see a procession re-enacting the crucifixion procession of Christ from Santa Cruz church to the Cathedral starting at 21h.
