Driving in Ibiza

Hi to all out there!!

Is it difficult to drive around in Ibiza. I normally drive on right hand side.

Cheers

Its a doddle. Just drive safely (i.e not drunk/drugged) and you should be fine. Just make sure you go to a reputable car hire firm and check out the brakes on the car before you go haring across the main road between San An and Ibiza town.

Some of the roads are a bit dodgy but on the whole MUCH better than a few years back. Almost all hire cars have had the engines restricted so you wont be able to whizz about like Michael Schumacher anyway.

Hiring a moped is a far more dangerous activity and not to be recommended unless you REALLY know what you are doing on a bike. Some road users in Ibiza do drive like lunatics and use of mirrors is virtually non existant (the idea being that if you drive fast enough it doesnt matter whats behind).

When hiring a car, do check what the insurance you buy does and does not cover. Not all hire firms have the same policy. Some will cover all eventualities and some will only cover normal wear and tear. Many do not cover the replacement of windows so do not leave anything in the car that might entice an opportunist theif.

As alot of car parks at beaches are unmade ground, it is worth checking that the tyres on any car you have are in good condition as its easy to get punctures even driving very carefully.

I hired a small Daewoo Matice for two days for 102 Euros. It was fine for a couple of days driving around the island (had air con too).

A freind hired a car over the internet for 10 days in UK prior to arriving in Ibiza for 18 pounds a day (he did some research and suggests its much cheaper if you book in UK rather than when you arrive in Ibiza).

Dont forget to take your driving licence with you.

Ibiza roads are not bad. But driving in Ibiza Town can get a bit hairy, v busy, lots of one-ways, roadworks and difficult to park.

Good Luck.

Well if you normally drive on the right side so do they! And if you're used to driving around Malta I don't see a problem. The Spanish are generally good drivers & Ibiza is no exception as long as you remember that they don't care about the corners of their cars so try to park where you won't get damaged by other motorists arriving at or leaving parking spaces :?:

Its easy make sure you dont speed though as they have static and mobile speed cams about now , some in the tunnels on the main drag from Ibiza town to San Antonio , one between Jesus and St eulalia , one on the PM 803 back road to San An Bay if anyone else knows where they are please post it will help us all

I may be wrong but in think they have introduced new speed humps on a few roads that I havnt noticed before.like the road from the pdb roundabout to the San josep 803 road, I'm pretty sure I used to burn it down there but now there are humps!
