Dorado Live Shows gets bigger and better. After 7 years at the now gone Santos hotel in Playa den Bossa, local's favourite live music event moves to Venice Bay, the new space that Concept Hotel Group created between Paradiso and Grand Paradiso hotels in Cala de Bou and that was inaugurated last October for the second edition of the Sonorama Ribera goes to Ibiza festival.

This year's line-up announcement is coming soon. In the meantime, these are the 5 dates:

18th of May | 22nd of June | 13th of July | 3rd of August | 21st of September

As always, the official after party will take place at Pikes with Rock Nights.

Last year's reviews here.

We've changed the setting of your favourite live music series on the island, featuring the best Spanish and international music artists. Dorado Live Shows will now take place in our multifunctional space, Venice Bay, between Paradiso Art Hotel and Grand Paradiso Hotel. As well as the stage, which will host this year's concerts, Venice Bay has food trucks, a skate ramp, a LOIS corner and many more surprises.

As always, we will donate part of the proceeds to a non-profit association. This time it will be APAAC, the association for the fight against cancer in Ibiza and Formentera. We hope to see you there with an Estrella Damm beer and at the Rock Nights aftershow at the Pikes Hotel. Keep on Rocking!

Last Thursday saw the return of our favourite live music event, Dorado Live Shows, now relocated from Playa d'en Bossa to Cala de Bou. Even if Ibiza is known as the electronic Meca, there's plenty of other music styles to be found on this little island as you can see if you take a look at the daily updates of IbizaRuge. A good example of this is the fact that the same day at the same time just around the corner in the Caló de S'Oli auditorium there was another show I would have liked to go to with the American saxophonist Dick Oatts (who has worked with artists such as Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald to name just a few). Talking about jazz, Grand Paradiso will have a new monthly event dedicated to that style, the first one this Thursday (May 25th). But that night was all about Carolina Durante, who I had to miss in 2019 when they played at Santos as I was at a festival in mainland Spain, and my first visit to Venice Bay, as I was away to another festival when Sonorama Ribera goes to Ibiza happened there last October. In the end, due to some technical issues, the event had to be moved to the beautiful Romeo's across the road.

The opening act was Por Las Noches, the brand spanking new project of Madrid bar owner and club promoter Edu Por Las Noches. Along with Silvia Superstar (singer of Galician punk rock band The Killer Barbies), he's the person behind the party El Fabuloso, which landed in Ibiza in 2011 and took place during seven years at Pikes and in 2018 moved to Cova Santa. Edu and his buddies Alex, Pichi and Raúl played songs like "Para nada", their first single, "Bakalá", "La más bonita" and other yet unreleased songs with a latin feel and, as expected from such a character, a good dose of humour.

From doing a sold out show at the huge Wizink Center in Madrid last January or headlining some of the biggest festivals in Spain to play at the pool area of Romeo's, we were lucky to enjoy a band like Carolina Durante in such an intimate venue. Formed in 2017, the young Madrid quartet has already released a couple of albums (their self-titled debut from 2019, which was a meteoric success, and Cuatro chavales from last year), various EPs and a long list of singles. "Aaaaaa#$!&", "Moreno de contrabando", "Urbanitas", "Granja escuela", "Tu nuevo grupo favorito", "Joder, no sé", "Casa Kira", the controversial "Cayetano", "Famoso en tres calles", "Las canciones de Juanita" were just some of the many songs played, short and straight to the point teen angst anthems that sound even more furious live. Diego Ibáñez, Martín Vallhonrat, Juan Pedrayes and Mario del Valle came and conquered. Special mention to their sound engineer, the famous producer Carlos Hernández (La Habitación Roja, Los Planetas, Viva Suecia, etc), who could be considered the fifth member of the band as not only he was in charge of making them sound great but also doing backing vocals and headbanging like possessed from his desk.

For different reasons I ended up missing the three previous dates so this was actually my first visit to Venice Bay, where next week the Sonorama Ribera goes to Ibiza festival will take place. Just on arrival we were greeted by @mrhorror.business wearing a kilt and a jacket adorned with badges from Scottish punk legends The Exploited giving away cotton candy (!!)... yeah, this is going to be a fun night!

Local band Niños Raros, one of the youngest on the island, made their live debut one year ago in Madrid and shortly after played at the Sonorama Ribera goes to Ibiza festival. Not a bad way to start, that's for sure. Guillem, Marco, Nacho and Oliver are four amigos from San Antonio that have released a few singles and an EP (Encuentros problemáticos, which came out two weeks ago with five songs) under the guidance of favourite Ibiza producer Joan Barbé. Their music is the result of a blend of different influences and styles, which reminds me of Joy Division, Royal Blood, even Deftones when they get intense. Songs like "Idisi" or "Aranjuez" prove they're talented with their instruments with honorable mention to the drummer, beating the shit out of his drumkit like there's no tomorrow.

Swedish garage rockers Mando Diao were back, now with Håkan Sörle from the brilliant The Baboon Show on guitar. Like six year ago, the band fronted by the charismatic Björn Dixgård played with acoustic guitars but it still was an energetic and electrifying show. Classics of their repertoire such as "Gloria" or "Dance with somebody" were combined with stuff from their latest album Boblikovs magical world (2023), including "Fire in the hall", "Animal", "Frustration", "Primal call", "Stop the train" and "Get it on", with those infectious choruses that have you singing along all the way through. Many of us remember their previous concert at Santos in Playa den Bossa as the best in the history of Dorado Live Shows but this one will also stay in our memories for a long time.

Setlist:
Fire in the hall
Animal
Long before rock 'n' roll
Mr Moon
One last fire
Frustration
Long long way
Scream for you
Down in the past
Primal call
Gloria
Ochrasy
Stop the train
