Does anyone know anything about Digital Marketing??

Been contacted about doing some freelance work for a Marketing agency but it's 50% offline campaigns (which I do all the time) and 50% online campaigns (which I've only touched on in a few roles).

Is online Marketing massively different (I know the basics and the technical terms and all that malarky) to the usual intergrated/above the line Marketing I do or is it pretty similar - ie will I be able to blag it  ;)

Thanks :D

I wouldn't say it's the same at all...but it depends how techie you're getting.

(God this is sensible for us)

Web copy reads different to brochure copy - architecture, formatting & layout are important.
Must get users to their point of interest in 3 clicks
Thought free goal oriented user journeys
Search engine marketing - google ppc vs optimisation
PHP, Flash, ASP
I could go on forever...

You'll have to be more specific really!

God no it won't be doing any of the actual techie stuff - it's me you're talking to here 8O  It's just a normal Marketing Manager role but with some online stuff as opposed to just press, SP, DM etc - I don't create the actual ads god help us all if I did 8O  Just the planning and account management side of things.

(Hark at us being all grown-up 8O  )

Do quite a bit of this in my current job. Probably looking at e-flyers, search engine optimisation, website layout, e-newsletters, click-throughs...

I've done all those as part of bigger Marketing campaigns so maybe I'll be ok - I just get scared when people mention things like digital :?

Sar, you use a computer as much as anyone else on earth or else you wouldn't be posting on here all the time. Time to stop this public "fear of all things technical" and embrace the medium :spank:

Yes I can get on the internet/e-mail and type 100 words a minute but that's as far as I go with computers, but thanks for the advice

i assume that you're all signed up to receive our monthly spotlight newsletter?

didn't even know there was one, mostly because i access these forums directly. i think i got into the habit of coming to the forums for information rather than the site. I think in the past year the content on the main site has gotten a lot better though, so I've been using it more this summer.

Are you going to elaborate on your thread regarding how Spotlight is run, perhaps a Panini sticker-book style feature on the main site of the people behind the site?
