This year i will force myself to get to Formentera, if i'm only going for the day, do i need to hire some sort of transport to properly see the island... :)

what do you suggest... i will be on my own, so a moped? bicycle?

A few years ago me and a friend hired 2 bicycles and cycled to the other side of the island.

Be warned though, the is quite a steep climb just after ferry port but it's downhill the other side - wheeeeeeee.

Got a fantastic tan in just that one day too.
Bring plenty of water - once you leave ferry port area, not many shops!
Don't wear sunglasses
Bring your sun lotion too - prefereably spray
Dont wear any hairspray or gel in your hair, lol

Have fun!!

so if i want to be a lazy arse, should i still hire a bicycle... or perhaps a moped?

I ride about 40 km a day ( 20 km to work and back) every day , so I'm used to the biking... but this is my holiday!

like stephen said, it is possible to ride a bike and still have a good look around the island and especially considering the amount you cycle already.

formentera is essentially a very flat island. be warned tho, get there early as all the rent-a-car/moped/bike places sell out quickly.

last time i went, we walked and still got to almost empty beaches8)

thanks then.. will try and get up early enough to get there so I can hire a bicycle!

If you are used to moppeds, then rent a small one (remember to take your driving license with you), it's about 20€/day. You can visit both lighthouses and explore some of the beaches in less than three hours, and then the rest of the day just lay in a beach :D

I'm very lazy to bike around, it's too hot for me

thanks silvia... this is what i'm thinking... i don't want to do hard exercise on my bicycle.. however, i don't have a moped license (do i need one or will a drivers license suffice?), so the bicycle may be my only option

I don't know. Spanish car drivers can drive scotters and motorbikes up to 125cv after two years driving car, but I don't know with foreing license. Take it with you and give it a try ;)

Thanks everyone.. :) I think i'd like to give the moped a try. the only place i've hired a motorbike was vietnam... but they don't give a frig about licenses there..

Hi everyone,

all being well i'll be visiting Formentera come next september but i won't have any difficulty for transport as i'll be on my EVO 2x gas scooter, hopefully i won't have too many problem's with the ferry company & local police etc..

Thanks for sharing that info with us 8O

Hello Sylvia,

sorry for that post as it was not meant to be offensive as the chance's are that i won't even be allowed on the french/spanish rail network should the french rail controller's ask what's in my rather oversized sportsbag as i will be declaring upon buying my rail ticket to Barcelona as a bicycle . But i believe in being independant & by having one's own form of transport then that independence can make a holiday all the more worthwhile, without the hassle of hire companies etc. I'm intrigued too find out out how much Ibiza & Formentera has changed over the year's, & i'm sure that utagaura will have a superb time whatever transport he decide's too use.
