Do hotels do refunds on prepayment if rates drop?

Obsessed as I am about my upcoming trip, I was playing with the hotel reservation system and found out that my 11-night stay now costs 70 euros less as a last-minute booking than it did when I pre-paid them weeks in advance! That's 2 club tickets! or almost 3 days of my car rental!

Anyone know if you can get this difference back somehow?

think of it like you paid the extra to sit comfortably in the knowledge you have your room booked.

I realize that last-minute bookings are discounted to fill potentially-empty rooms. Still, seems kind of unfair that I gave them money weeks ago thus allowing them to earn interest on it (while I pay interest on my credit card), plan their budgets ahead of time, etc. and still have to pay more. c'est la vie.
