Dixon & Ame EM

not bad not good. though it would be better

I sort of thought the same actually but feel my expectations may have been a little too high. It definitely had its good points but nowhere near as good as the EM that Dixon did back in 2013.

Probably agree, although I'm going to reserve full judgement on it until after I've listened to it a few more times

Just listening now. My mates were a little down on it.
I'm halfway through and loving it so far.

I liked it when I listened to it the first time on sat afternoon. and I think it'll grow on me more when listening again.

this EM has been hyped so much pre-release, no wonder lots of people had high expectations and are now mildly disappointed. there's quite a lot of new stuff featured within, give it a few listens and suddenly you might go 'oh yeah this is actually really nice'.

2013 was a vintage Dixon year...he was so good that season when he did that EM, its a true classic.

His sound has changed a little now though...I think he has gone a little harder and is a little heavier on the squeeks and bleeps. Less "epic"...fewer breakdowns...that's my 10 cents worth anyway...

Must admit, I've seen Dixon live and wasn't overly impressed and listening to this EM for the first 90mins I wasn't sure what I was meant to be hearing. Do people actually dance to this stuff, or just stand there stroking their beards and tapping their feet? Sounds like something you might put on before indulging in a bit of rhino-wonk.

Last 30mins was decent enough but just didn't 'get it'

I think quite the opposite actually. I've listened 3 times now. The first half hour is still a little slow building up for me, but from 30:00 - 90:00 I think there are some real potential gems. The last 30 min is moving but not exactly to my taste. In my opinion the more i listen, the more it sounds like recent Dixon stylistically than Ame. Its def growing on me as a mix and i agree a bit that is not all necessarily perfect for a dance floor but i am sure they did that on purpose.

when I used to hear them out on thursdays at plastic people about 10 years back (entry £5 - dem were the days..) they played some of the bests sets I ever heard, loads of edits, loads of bangers, the odd chicago classic, a few afro/disco bits and obv the big guns like Rej which I remember felt like a thermo-nuclear assault on the senses. There wasn't a lot of room to dance but the music always sounded very twisted in a pitch dark room with only the dj light. I dunno if it would have the same appeal now - playing to rooms of thousands ain't the same as playing to 75 banjaxed diehards but it's good they did open a lot of ears to something more musical than boring minimal (who mentions minimal now eh?)
