Legendary British-based DJ/producer John Digweed is always one step ahead of the pack. With 2005 looming, the evergreen artist is set to storm on into next year, as usual, on his own terms. The Bedrock supremo has a passion for music few can match in the industry. As a DJ he has traveled the globe and is in his own right a successful broadcaster, producer, promoter and A+R executive. In the past he has produced highly acclaimed classic mix albums and his own Bedrock label compilations are considered to be a standard in the industry.
To many people's surprise John Digweed will release a new mix album in cooperation with the Fabric series in 2005. Digweed showcases the best of his Fabric DJ-ing adventure with a compilation for the London- based club. The marriage of Digweed and Fabric is appropriate though. Both DJ and club are continuously committed to advancement and are both striving for musical perfection. John Digweed believes the venues' commitment to quality programming has made it one of the top places to apply his trade and he states further:
"Keith Reilly's [Owner of Fabric] vision is that this club is about pure music. What I play at Fabric varies from what I play at other venues. The sound system at Fabric makes records come alive and I can play records there that I couldn't in any other club on the planet".
With club and DJ sharing ideologies it seems like a perfect match. The club was custom built for DJs and clubbers who go for music in its purest form. With one of the hottest sound systems in the world, located in an incredibly intimate space, the club is still considered one of the top three venues worldwide. The features of the club are as important as John's meticulous preparation. Never being one to embrace the media spotlight, he continues:
"The thing I like about Fabric is that people can't really see you, they're listening. A Dj-ing performance is still about the music and not the DJ".
The resulting CD, Fabric 20, supplies non-visitors to the club the opportunity to sample Digweed's approach to his night at Fabric. He skillfully places a distinct nod in direction of the past whilst never taking his eye off the future. Digweed once again gives us a glimpse into the forward-thinking mind of one of the world's biggest DJs: "This mix is a five hour Fabric set combined into 74 minutes. And I hope it surprises a few people", he comments.
Fabric 20 showcases a typical Digweed sound once more, but with less atmospherics than previous offerings, a slightly more accessible sound, but then again it sounds very now, because of the electro house feel to it. In typical fashion, Digweed challenges the preconceptions of his taste once again with tracks by Pete Moss, Billy Delessandro, Bobby Peru, Joel Mull and Martin Solveig. Expect the unexpected, Digweed delivers a 14 tracker that embraces house, electro and weirdo disco!
