DIABETIC CLUBBER TAKES ON CLUBLAND

Many clubs don\'t allow clubbers in with insulin injection pens

A clubber who was refused entry to a central London club because of her insulin injection pen is set to take the issue all the way to the House of Commons.

Back in November Lisa Morris was dismayed to find door staff would not let her in with her pre-loaded insulin injection pen.

Bouncers said she could only come in if she left her medication in the cloakroom. Because Lisa needs instant access to her insulin, this was not an option.

After finding out that other clubs in the UK have similar door policies, she decided to organise a petition which she hopes to present to the All Parliamentary Group for Diabetes.

Insulin injection pens are pre-loaded and can only be used for administrating insulin, but many clubs consider them a safety risk.

i never take my pen out as i know they will require it to be held in the cloakroom, i will end up inebriated and forget it - thats if its still there


to be fair tho

have never been stopped taking glucose sweets in

I sometimes forget to check my coat pockets for needles before I go out...

Sometimes I get searched and I have needles on me with no insulin which looks very suspicious

I just show them my necklace and they beleive me!



regarding that article... I can't think of any situation that a diabetic would need immediate access to insulin. (unless they hadn't had any for a few days ) If I was asked to leave my dextrose in the cloakroom i'd kick up a fuss because blood sugar can drop very quickly... but dextrose are just like sweets in a packet so they can't say much!

I thought that part was a bit strange too

with all the dancing your blood sugar should crash - not rise to the extent of need immediate insulin

unless you were having naughty sugary booze all night!

Even with drinking sugary drinks all night I don't think the sugar level would get dangerously high! Not so dangerous that you couldn't wait 5/10 minutes for the cloakroom!


And I think being asked to leave insulin in the cloakroom is fair enough! If a bouncer walked into the toilets and saw you injecting yourself they wouldn't give you a chance to explain... And if other clubbers saw the pen/needles and didn't know it was for diabetes they would probably think it was something dodgey!

Most diabetics (and almost all non-diabetics) will probably agree with her petition, but i'm not signing it!
