How have we done?

Please rate your progress out of 5... (5 = great, 1 = sh*te)

I'm a 2.5

I've been going to the gym religiously (except for a one week lapse) but as yet I've not seen any recent benefits (and before you say anything, I was going to the gym late last year too so it's not too early as yet).
I'm finding it a challenge doing all the weights days I need to fit in (3) as well as fitting in a decent cardio routine to increase weight loss around the developing muscle.

I went to the gym at lunch for a 25 min bike workout but I'm thinking actually investing in a bike and cycling to and from work may be a good idea to clear up this problem.

So overall - despite efforts I'm

(watch this space though because I have a few months till summer!)

ive lost half a stone, and come down to a nice 32 waist with a no exercise, plenty of fresh home made food, and 15 a day habit.

I lost 1/2 stone at the beginning of the week because i puked it all out of my system and didnt really eat but i've probably put all that back on again

Last proper check in id lost a measly 3lbs but thats also because i've not been doing my diet properly :spank:

smoke, dont drink and cook.

Errr, i'm doing pretty good.

I've been training daily first thing in a morning and am aiming for 30 days straight. I'm on day 26 today but not sure i'll make it through the weekend cos we've got messy plans :?

Diets very good and booze is cut down significantly (except Fri/Sat  )

I bought some body fat scales, which also read muscle weight, bone density, metabolic age etc. They are very good, especially for keeping a daily log to monitor your progress. Body fat has dropped 2% since new year and my metabolic age is 11 years younger than my real age 8O - which basically means i can start caning it all over again

I'm really enjoying the cardio training. It's amazing how much fitter and easier it gets after a week or so regular sessions.

So i'd say i'm around a 3.9/5.

:)

how do your scales measure metabolic age???? Do you have to breath into them and then do some exercise and then breath again, or does it measure your heartbeat? :? Presumably it's measuring your BMR but how a set of scales does that beats me!

It's all done by electric current. It measures by impedance.

I'd recommend them to anyone interested. You can buy them at Boots for around £55 (Tanita make)

hmm.. I don't believe it can accurately measure your metabolic rate through impedance, but the fat measurement is supposed to be ok on these things, certainly useful if you want to watch progression, even though the actual number might not be right.

metabolic rate is a measurement of the rate you respire so I can't really see how impedance can measure that. Technically as you age your metabolic rate will go down, hence why people get fatter as they grow older.

Anyway, I'm probably wrong, but I'm always skeptical of things like this, they always appear to be not much more than a rough approximation

It doesn't measure metabolic rate, it's metabolic age. The instructions explain it all. It (by electric current) basically assesses your internal tissue to give a general measurement of fitness.

Oh yes, it also measures visceral fat which is the fat that surrounds your organs which is quite important with regards to heart disease etc.

metabolic age is surely going to have something to do with your metabolic rate?

meh, I don't know. I'll believe it when I see an independent study that shows that the figures given by the scales are closely correlated to those obtained through a physical examination.

Anyway, I'm sure they tell you the right weight

Yeah, i think we can trust that. Body weight is pretty meaningless anyhow.

Here's the link to the scales http://www.tanita.co.uk/index.cfm?page=consumer_products_individual&PID=72&categoryID=4&subcategoryID=11

Ah yes, another good feature is it tells you how many calories you need to take in for normal daily function. The readings for this seem pretty accutate IMO. My friend (who is 3 stone heavier) tried and it read quite a bit higher and the g/f tried (who is 5 stone lighter) and it obviously read quite a bit lower.

Notice the price £129.99. Well, my friend bought these and said he paid £55'ish from Boots so i told him what the website said and he suggested Boots may have made a mistake on the price. True enough, i think they had. When i went to pick some up the another model was priced at £129.99 with less features. RESULT!!

they do measure basal metabolic rate, which is interesting.

Think my dad's got those actually (is scales a plural?)

bargains = 8)

Yeah, i noticed that just now too on the webpage but can't remember seeing the reading on the scale(s)?

I've only had them a week or so, so just getting to grips with it all.

I've lost 9lb, detoxed for 3 weeks, stopped smoking for 3 weeks, then retoxed and started smoking again :spank: So long as the 9lb stays away then i'm happy :D

well ... Waitrose only sell halffat cream for cooking so that leaves me with 12,5 fatt in my cream instead of the danish stuff that contains like...6 % - thats double up on the fatty-intake on my next meal. i know i knoooooow: IG why the funk are you eating stuff like cream when you´re detoxing. WELLLLLLL my dear friends: simple. Cream fatt is better for your digestion (leaves your intestines a hellava lot quicker that f.i fat milk or any other carb for that matter) .........and you need something to go on,m when you are cutting out carbs. (but eating those cream eggs instead, they have at the counter at BOOTS!)

OK SAFE TO Say....my detox is down to a single half point!

I quit booze for a month and ate healthy 90% of the time. Didn't lose any weight but I don't need to (does that sound smug? )

I'm back drinking now but have cut down alot, and feel better for it.

Maybe the lack of food/booze/cake is what turned everyone on the board into a gang of cranks last month.
