Defected @ Ushuaia 2024 - Reviews & Reports

How has defected been going at Ushuaia, are they pulling in the numbers?

I’m new here but spotted this and thought I’d chime in 👋🏻

I was at Defected last Tues (Roger Sanchez, Sam Divine, Rudimental etc), and it felt a lot quieter than when I’ve done Ants / Elrow in early July the last few years.

We got there about 6.30 and the front section near the stage was busy but def not full, but all other spaces pretty empty, including VIP. Also hardly anyone on the balconies / in the little room terrace bits either. It picked up but not til gone 8.30 (not sure if they’ve scrapped last entry time as sure other nights I’ve done there it was 8?) but still the area behind the pool and down the walkways either side were quiet.

They had the bar at the back closed off, but the bar and terrace on top of it open to everyone - not sure if this is just Defected or Ushuaia in general this year? Sure when I’ve been before it was only VIP up there. The toilets up there are nice - fancy sinks! - and you get a good view across the place from the balcony.

Still had enough atmosphere for me and I like having space to dance, but I’m not sure it worked as well as Defected at Eden last year…

It seems like Ushuaia is still experimenting with Tuesdays. They tried Camelphat and Solardo recently. The rest of their lineup is pretty well established, for years now. I'd like to see them experiment more often! It's good to hear a positive review, this is where it starts.

I was also interested that you mentioned the back terrace being for VIP. I have seen it open to general admission in previous years. It could be VIP for specific parties. It's a very popular area!

My friends wanted me to come to defected with them. I love house music and have tons of respect what defected has been doing for the genre the past two decades. But that party was an utter disappointment! Maybe it's me. When I come to Ibiza I expect forward thinking, new music, fresh trends. If you want to make a purely retro party then please call it that. Every DJ, except Oden and Fatzo, played tried and tested, really old house hits, sometimes you heard the same vocal twice or more times that night. And not the cool stuff, I am talking the house productions that made it into the UK single charts. Lolas Theme, Dr Pressure, Mojo - Lady kind if stuff, that even my mum will know. Worst offender was Armand van Helden who managed to play not one single new or recent house record. 60 minutes classic, not even mixing but cold fading in between.
It was a pure retro party just like Children of the 80ies is. Defected is not about the future or even present of house music anymore. It is managing the remains of it, and I am pretty sure Dunmore can't be pleased with this development under new management.
