Jazzy Jeff In The House

Disc 1 - Starts its formidable journey with a classic in the truest sense of the word, the much Sampled ‘Melting pot’, with a beat that inspired a generation of Hip Hop heads. The game is now in play as the 76’ Horn feast of Kool & The Gang ‘Open Sesame’ is next from Jazzy’s box, The well imbedded Hip Hop roots are ever more apparent as yet another hugely sampled cut Herman Kelly’s ‘Drummers Beat’ joins the mix, in harmonious contrast reggae rockers ‘Third world’ drift in with ‘Now that we found Love’ as Jazzy effortlessly cuts up between 2 copies. Bohannon is the next Dance floor shaping Artist to offer up its yield as the still inspiring sound of ‘Lets Start the Dance’ drops. Barry ‘LW’ White is the last of by gone classics that set this disc in perfect balance alongside future classic as Victor Duplaix’s beautifully penned ‘Morena’, Blaze ‘I Found Love and the totally awesome MAW Records ‘Somebody New’ from George Levan. As 69 minutes fly’s by, the end of the night essen
tial ‘Home’ closes the show.

Disc 2 - ‘Pappa was a rolling Stone’, countless years on and this still drops correct, the unmistakeable voice of Dana Vicek and Abstract Truth deliver a perfect jazz moment on ‘We Had a Thing’ (Great song). The programming of this disc is spot on as Jazzy really creates a musical journey, not just a jump up party set - Toronto based Trackheads ‘Our Music’ is pure sublime house testifying to that. The double vision begins and the hands are just a blur as jazzy chops between 2 copies of KC’s ‘Useless’, the keys taking this groove to a new level, yet more quality house from DJ Spen with his latest ‘Gabrielle’ where the strings continue into this years biggest anthem ‘Strings of life’. Hip Hop flava rear’s its head as KRS 1 drops a ‘Gansta House’ rhyme. The distinctive style that Jazzy’s house click of Kenny Dope etc is evident as Kenny’s mixed, Soul Fusions ‘I Got Rhythm’ cuts in. Drawing this solid selection to a close the broken beat genius of Chez Music’s Jazztronic ‘S
amuri’ is a fitting peak.

This culminates in an unobvious track selection that points to the origins of house, inspired by Jazzy Philly Soul Influence. This is a compilation that will not date and you can play again and again.

Especially the JJ ITH looks really hot!

What do you think?

Two more to add to the collection then! I hold those guys at Defected partly responsible for my rapid depletion in beer tokens this year, can't they bring out just one compilation that I could do without!?!?

Their 'Most Rated UK Tour' definitely looks worth a visit to, I'm thinking Sandy Rivera, Junior Jack & Kid Creme and Martin Solveig at Ministry on 6/11!

I will wait till the Jazzy Jeff ITH hits the record store in the US. Up until now, I have bought my stuff from the web, but I am a bit hesitant on the Jazzy Jeff one.

Either way, what do you guys thing about the tracks on the Most Rated record. I will admit that I have not heard many of the tracks (at least I do not remember the names). Some feedback would be really appreciated.

Thanx,

LagunaBeachCA (The Real OC)
