The Soundhaus, Hydepark Street, Glasgow

Everyone’s favourite deviants are back with a special party at the Soundhaus for the long weekend at the end of May. As promised, the mighty Egyptian Lover is coming back to British soil with Jamie Jupiter and after the unforeseen circumstances surrounding their planned appearance last year, ain’t nobody gonna stop them.
The electro hop legend that is Greg Broussard, AKA Egyptian Lover, was one of the most important performers of the underground West Coast American dance scene. He began recording around Los Angeles in 1983 as a member of the Radio Crew and later that year released the much-copied Dial-A-Freak as part of Uncle Jamm's Army. He released his debut solo single and club hit Egypt, Egypt in 1984. It was followed by more hits, including And My Beat Goes Boom, What Is a DJ If He Can't Scratch, Computer Love and Dance
The Egyptian Lover also established his own record company, Egyptian Empire Records, which included artists such as Rodney O & Joe Cooley.
In 2005, he released his first single since 1994, Party backed by Dancefloor, followed by the album Platinum Pyramids in 2006. By the end of 2006, he went into the studio with Jamie Jupiter and recorded UFO and Futuristic for his latest 12” Keep it Hot. 2006 also saw The Egyptian Lover collaborate with Warp Records’ Jimmy Edgar.
More than twenty years after he started making records, The Egyptian Lover’s influence can be heard in much of today’s electronica (Autechre, I-F…) and hip-hop artists like Missy Elliott proving that he is just as important as his own heroes, Kraftwerk and Africa Bambaataa.
For this very special Deviant Behaviour, The Egyptian Lover will perform live with Jamie Jupiter for an orgy of electronic old school and funky jams.
If that didn’t wet the whistle enough, Sweden’s Lukas Karl Pettersson, better known as Luke Eargoggle has been added to the bill. Similarly inspired by Egyptian Lover, he will also be performing a live set to complete what promises to be a night of proper machine funk.
Luke runs his own label, Stilleben Records and has also recorded his dark, sleazy brand of electro for Bunker Records, Kommando 6, Clone and Kondi Records amongst others. He has also worked with fellow Bunker label mate, Legowelt under the name Catnip and also plays under various guises including Achilles and Monkeyshop.
As Luke Eargoggle, his debut 12” was Papa Didn’t Love Me in 1998 on Stilleben. He released his debut LP on Bunker, Audio Warriors, in 2003 and followed that up with his Pawns of the Field LP last year on Kust Musik.
As ever, Deviant Behaviour will be sticking to it's ethos of getting the best of the new and local talent aired. Hektor Ruiez will be joined by RV to bring us the much-heralded STICK 430 live. And following on from his Monox debut in the SmutHut, Steven Patton will be unleashing his live assault.
Other DJs on the night will be Pro Vinylist Karim, Currie and your hosts: John Mac, The Wasp and Scott Theory comprising The DB Spit Roast.
A night we've been looking forward to for a good few months now beckons, with the prospect of a filthy funk-fuelled frenzy.
