Dan's Ibiza Jaunt - Sept 7th - 11th

Just back from a blinding 4 days in Ibiza 8). I didn't go last year (for the first time in 8 years) so was really up for it. We stayed at the Garbi in PDB which I think is a great choice for a 4 day stay with it's nice rooms, pool and bar/restaurant on the beach for those essential recovery sessions.

Landed at 10:45pm weds night, straight out of the airport with hand luggage only to meet our mate who'd been there a few days already. Checked into the Garbi in record time then down to the poolside bar for a few warmup drinks. Met some weird belgian couple who tagged along to Space with us, but turned out to be far too weird so we lost them somewhere on the way.

Got into space about 1:00am nicely buzzing which was handy cos it was already going off in the main room. :p Trance is not my bag really, but one of my mates loves it so he was bouncing around like a lunatic. Have to say though that overall the music was pretty good all night with Armin, Alex Morph etc all putting in good shifts. Got a bit jaded towards the end and left with half an hour to go. Stopped on the way back to Garbi for various 'chill out kit' components before hitting the hotel room for vodkas, smoking, gibbering etc.

THURSDAY

Woke up around 1pm and hit the pool area for lifesaving smoothies and dips in the pool. An hour later we're at the beachfront bar downing large beers and ordering tapas - pure bliss. Our moods improving all the time, we strolled off through the surf to bora bora for a few bottles of Rose and some warmup shapes. Got talking to some really friendly Spanish girls, then suddenly - my mates Iphone & Diesel shades have gone from the table. OK, silly mistake to leave them there and suddenly it's all gone bad buzz!

After convincing him his insurance would pay up and making the necessary calls to get the crime number etc we're back in good form and having a couple of drinks in the hotel room and getting ready to head to Ibiza town for food. Then my two mates decide to pop to the hotel where one of them is staying and leave me to finish getting ready.

Decide to have a quick lie down on the bed - SCHOOLBOY ERROR - woke up at 00:45 dazed and confused, still in beach gear, mates nowhere to be seen. Can't get hold of one of them cos his phone's gone, the other one is going to voicemail. We had already planned to go to Amnesia after eating in Ibiza town, so I figured my only choice was to get straight up there. So, in lieu of any dinner, I grabbed a snickers bar from the shop outside, downed a bottle of water, dropped a nice one, then jumped in a dodgy taxi and sped to amnesia.

Had a great night spent mainly on the terrace with Laidback Luke dropping loads of great tunes and really getting the crowd going. Found my mates to much relief and felt like the night had been properly rescued. Left amnesia battered but happy at 6am and had a decent chill back at the Garbi.

FRIDAY

Up around 2pm for a quick dip in the pool, then 2 crappy hours driving round trying to the find the police station to get the official documents for my mate's lost phone. Finally got that sorted and then spent a few hours drinking beers in Ibiza Town marina. Headed up to Dalt Villa at around 7pm and had a lovely relaxing meal at La Oliva - amazing tuna/salmon sashimi to start and a decent steak to follow, all washed down with a good Rioja.

Feeling bloated and half-cut we made our way back to PDB to get changed and pepped up for another night out. Got into Pacha around 12:30 and circulated for about an hour before getting set up on the main dancefloor to the left of the DJ booth. Sharam was good, Pete Tong was a bit boring, Matthais Tanzmann was really good. Didn't leave the dancefloor for 5 hours solid, great night all in all, but really felt it when we got back to the hotel - my 38 year old bones shouldn't be taking this kind of punishment night after night!

Chilled back at the room with the guys and a random girl we'd met before finally getting some sleep around 9AM.

SATURDAY

Felt pretty much destroyed when I got up - but a swim in the Garbi pool and some chill time had me feeling OK again. Headed to Sands beach bar/restaurant at the far end of PDB beach and had some nice Calamari and a really great Thai red curry, washed down with beers and Rose. At this point the sensible plan would be to go back to the hotel, get packed and chill before heading to the airport at 11:00pm for our 01:00am flight. Instead, I managed to persuade my mate to come into Bora Bora for 'one last set of shapes', which he was reluctant to do after losing his phone there. He had good reason because after 10 mins some fat italian dude fell off a table, onto a chair and onto my mates foot! Instant black toenail and bruised ankle. I prescribed neat shots of JD as a painkiller, which seemed to do the trick, so we stayed in and it went off - had a great time, downing vodkas and soaking up the slamming atmosphere. Ended up dancing on a table with a really nice girl from Birmingham called Kerry and just DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE :eek::cry::lol:

Meanwhile my mate had forgotten about his increasingly mouldy toenail  and was getting on very well with a cool girl from Hamburg. We were so tempted to miss the flight and stay, but we just about managed to get our sensible heads on in time to run back to the hotel, chuck everything in the suitcase and get to the airport with moments to spare.

A legendary trip all in all, but as usual I feel like bursting into tears when I think about it now! One day my life will be the right way round, i.e. I will spend all year fulfilling my dreams in Ibiza while planning the occasional 2-week holiday working in an office! :D

Nice review :)

When reading it the first time you skipped from Wednesday to Friday...I just sensed something had happened to you like Hangover the movie, then saw you put friday twice

I love reading the short, cram in 4 days worth of memories, holidays on here. You seem to do what would take me my usual 11 days to get through. Speaking of 'lifesaving smoothies', my new favourite drink from this holiday was Cocomango. Bloody delicious.

I surprised myself to be honest, have never done 3 nights in a row before - maybe it's the smoothies :)

Cocomango sounds lovely!

Great review sunny_d I too am going for only a few days like yourself but next week, I'm 39 so I think if you can do it so can I

you can do it alright, but be prepared for a brutal week at work afterwards! I had Sunday off, then back to work on Monday - now it's Tuesday and I'm still struggling to stay awake at my desk despite getting to bed at 8pm last night...

:lol::eek:
