aye the sunset terace would have been good but with this and clockwork orange on this summer ill definitely have to go again,

I hope this works, the lineups are great, and on paper it looks amazing, but given its week in week out, plus with all the other events on around, I can see this being fairly quiet, and Sankeys pushing the free wristbands..

Wonder what rooms they will use at Sankeys?

the way I see it, this will work. I'm not saying it will be packed week in week out, but I'm positive it will always be busy enough.

reasons why I think it'll work:
- tickets for this are selling really well
- approach to do an old school party was a serious one with good and varied line ups
- sankeys don't need 2000 people to make a party look busy

it's great to see this though catering for us old skoolers, i do like some of todays house the more uplifting stuff ,stuff on that latest Sonny Fedora mix on Defected is mostly good, but much of todays dance music is utter rubbish to be honest and im not even talking about that EDM shite either

I want to think it will be good but my fear is it will just be ancient djs playing ancient cheese to ancient clubbers. A few classics is fine but a whole night of it...? (unless they do mix it up)

I say that as someone who saw Fabio & Alfredo last summer and Rampling the year before. It was all obvious commercial stuff and not rare Chicago/Italian

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but do people think the music on this night will be music exclusive to the years 88 & 89? Or will it be spread out into the early 90s stuff?

I love my old tunes but I don't think I could handle hours & hours of tunes from only 2 years as the DJs are likely to play the same tunes.

I'm pretty sure it'll be mainly old stuff, but definitely not only those two years.

as for SSA's comment - you're hard to please man. I don't think you'll get a lot of 'rare' stuff at those nights. thing is, because they expect to get a bit of everything (old school ravers as well as young guns) and they have to make sure it's busy, they'll probably play a decent amount of known stuff. maybe I'm wrong, but that's my guess.

Haha, wee bit harsh, having a chuckle here - ancient cheese to ancient clubbers (although I'm probably falling into that category now).

When will Hyte close? Late September? It'll run on the same night as 88/89 won't it? I was up for 88/89 for something different. I don't really care how obvious the music may be. I think if you're out with friends and everything else then it'll be a good night. But i sense the Hyters in our party will win out, despite it being my birthday  (might grab a ticket for 88/89 and go to both).

The likes of Bushwacka and Mr C are both very good dj's who are just as relevent today and should lead the charge on this one and ensure that there is plenty of upfront or perhaps less obvious sounds getting played.

The likes of Alfredo, Greame Park etc will I'm sure indulge those looking for a bit of nostalgia but nothing wrong with that.

I think this could be really good. A fun, good value alternative to some of the other stuff out there.

I am a bit cynical about this night (cos I've been to a few too many Back to '89 style nights in London) but I will concede that Bushwacka still has his finger on the pulse (as ElMooreo said) and does select/mix it up very well (PROOF HERE > https://soundcloud.com/justbebushwacka/live-at-shoom-december-2012

If he gets to call the shots and is allowed to programme the music it may be very good and I will freely eat my words.

However...

there's at least one 'legend' on the summer lineup though on there (who I won't name..) who I have met and is just a middle aged bloated cokehead - booked purely on his reputation 30 years ago - who I guarantee you will just trainwreck his way through his collection of tesco classics CDs like an uncle at a wedding

What is it about the year 89??

I remember going to this back in 2009, it was a very good night mind!
