Cup Final Day

Wisey, being Wisey, went up to Eric Cantona and bet him a hundred quid he would miss it but it didn't work. Fair play to Wisey though he paid up afterwards

Nookie-bear-a-like makes a twat of himself shocker!

Worst cup final ive seen in a few years not a good game at all :o Chelski win it in extra time in a game that in reality could;ve gone either way, so the rent boys have won the cup and United the Premiership, not a lot between both teams, United slightly stronger, will be interesting to see what next season brings.

Anyway bring on the Scottish cup final next Saturday :lol:

Has a point does Fergie, there's no doubt Petr Cech brought the ball behind the line as seen on TV.

Boss: Fatigue cost us the final

Sir Alex Ferguson believes tiredness "in two or three positions" and the ref's failure to award United a penalty were key to the FA Cup final defeat.

While many fans, especially those watching on TV, thought United were hard done by when Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech seemed to take the ball over the line, Sir Alex insisted Michael Essien fouled Ryan Giggs as he closed in to stab home Wayne Rooney's cross.

The manager lamented that non-decision by referee Steve Bennett as much as his refusal to award a goal to Giggs.

"It was a penalty kick, " said Sir Alex, regarding Essien's challenge on Giggs.

"Then the goalkeeper's spilled the ball behind the line. I think it will have been a difficult one for the linesman to call but the referee should be in a better position.

"I couldn't see the incident from where I was, there were players right in front of me, but I've seen it since (on TV) and it was a clear penalty kick. The referee must have been in a good position to see that. It's disappointing to see the replay, I must say.

"I think the pressure (Chelsea boss Jose) Mourinho put on the referee before the game has certainly worked and I'm (also) disappointed at that."

That incident towards the halfway point in extra-time was probably the turning point in a tight and often stifled contest. Thirteen minutes later and unlucky for United, Chelsea's dangerman Didier Drogba was finally able to nick the ball past Edwin van der Sar for 1-0.

"There was nothing between the two teams," reflected Sir Alex.

as a to be european cup winner i feel i can bring a degree of objectivity to this.

i wanted united to win (which felt weird)

But giggs nearly kicked him over the line, it was like the good old days when you could barge them in - never a goal.

surely it should have been either a penalty to united for the foul on giggs, a free kick to chelsea for giggs follow through on cech or a goal..........to give nothing in that situation was poor refereeing.

Foul by Giggs. Advantage played as we had the ball. Is it really that difficult for utd fans to get????

What a petty arguement (which I've heard a few times since yesterday and am now bored of answering) Utd lost we won. End of....

On another level I think the man united fans were a disgrace yesterday booing the liverpool greats and a few others. w******

  not a petty argument at all, I was just giving examples of what the ref should have done in the situation......!

Losing doesn't bother me at all (as you'll be aware we won the most important competition ;) ), I'm more disappointed by the fact the game was ****!

Maybe if your team had actually tried to win it, it might have been a different story. (Apart from Rooney, Vidic and Ferdinand, the rest of your "supposedly" more entertaining team weren't even at the races for the majority of the game).

Why Fergie tried to play us at our own game is beyond me. I always hear that we're the defend then counter-attack/long ball team.. Still, I'm not complaining, best team won and all that...

Have you seen the TV replay?I've watched it 5 times, the Petr Cech had the ball over the line, meaning it was a goal.

If the ball crossed over the line, it was only because Giggs fouled Cech. I do realise that at OT that would usually result in a penalty for the rags.

Nope, I'm just being honest. Unlike those who think that should've been a goal/penalty yesterday.

Not a great game. These finals nearly always prove an anticlimax.
Hoping for a better final this wednesday.
