After much anticipation, I went to Creamfields in Buenos Aires on 12/13 November.
It was phantasconomenal (my own word - don't look it up!). The weather was perfect - there was a huge (and I do mean HUGE) full moon dancing around the skyscrapers, 11 hectares of partying, I can't remember how many different dance areas, each with different music, and a worthless (in my view) VIP tent (I spent the whole of 15 minutes in before moving on).
DJ Vibe, Tenaglia, Cattaneo, Howells were great. I also caught some of Infusion which was cool, but quickly ran for cover when Prodigy was playing (barf!).
Very cool people, everyone having a great time, no aggressiveness, no obnoxious security people à la Space (in fact didn't see any anywhere except at the VIP filter). Seeing Oakenfold play on Main Stage was strange - like a U2 concert - and he moved all around the stage like Bono - but the crowd loved it.
Funniest, and very un-Ibiza, experience was at one of the VIP bars. We ordered whiskey and cokes (cost a whole of about €3.50 euros) and the bartender apparently only heard whiskey so he filled up both long glasses to the rim with whiskey and some (not alot) ice. I said that we wanted whiskey and coke. He was quite embarassed by it so simply poured another glass of coke and gave it to us to mix it. It was real whiskey not a strangely watered down Ibiza vintage!
One of the greatest things about the whole event were the days leading up to it. Anywhere you went, people would ask you "Are you going to Creamfields?" People in cafés, waiters/waitresses, store attendants, people working at the hotel. They give you their cellphones or indicate a meeting place (by the big tree) to meet up during the event (of course with 65,000 people -impossible to find them). But what openness and friendliness in a city of c. 13 million souls.
BA is where the scene is these days. Great city. With all the billboards around town announcing upcoming DJs and club nights (ie Roger Sanchez at Mint on 2 December and some old ones on the South American Music conference) you would think you were in Ibiza!
I'll be back next year!
An additional plus were there were alot of Brazilians in attendance this year.
Really made up for a very sh*tty 4 November Deep Dish at Queen club in Paris. Not Deep Dish's fault, they were fine. Just the horrible club that is Queen and the horrible club scene that is Paris.
