I live 0.5 miles over the border between the North and the Republic of Ireland, I work in the North and so pay all taxes etc there but live in the Republic where I am not liable for any taxes.
There are no rates / council taxes in the republic and to top that the ECB Interest rate is only 2.5% (went up another 0.25% yesterday
) so my Mortgage is a hell of a lot cheaper also!
The rates on my old house in northern ireland were approx £1000 a year.
Only drawback is the price of cars (due to a Vehicle Registration Tax of ~25%) and the price of Road Tax
