Corporate Chess Tournament

So.... we had a corporate chess tournament today. Held in the Russian Chess Federation headquarters, where the greats like Kasparov once plied their trade. The top three finishers won a trip to the Black Sea coastal resort of Sochi to represent the head office in the tournament finals against all the regional folks.

Now, I was under no illusions about the Russians' exceptional chess ability, given that they're taught it in school on the same level as other sports... but these guys mean business 8O

I thought the tournament was all for good fun... little did I know that everyone would be taking this thing so seriously. I got my butt kicked!! :spank:

Any of you guys play?

Nah, aint got the patience for it. And when you lose its frustrating as f*ck cos you have spent so long playing!

Aaahhh, back to Football!

Tell me about it! We had a 25 minute limit on each player for moves (with those funny little clock thingies that you tapped each time you were done taking your turn) and every game still took up to an hour... I played 5 matches over 5 hours... had one opponent offer me a draw but I said no and went for the kill only to slip up about 5 moves later

I was Chess champion in school years ago but I think the Irish chess champion would probably only be good enough to play against the 5 year olds in Irkutsk, and would still get their ass kicked!! ;)
