cacoon!! can somebody please tell me about this nite??
what music, whats the atmosphere like, what the people like?
is it worth goin?? havnt really heard much about this nite but any help would be great.thanx 8) :?:
 
You've to buy the last Sven Vätch compilation..Cocoon 'The soun of the 5th season'(2004) 1audio cd+1dvd from the Cocoon closing party@Amnesia with interviews from Sven...brilliant!
 
This is a strong contender for the best night IMO..

The main room is classed as Techno, and the 2nd room Tech house/Electro.. However, Sven music is everything from tech house - techno imo.. Bascially just really good powerful music that will keep you dancing.. The crowd really go for it, everyone is lovin it and the production is also really good.

We're there for the opening and will spend a good few hours in both rooms, you have to honestly give it ago :D
 
The music's good id you like techno and electro, but I would see who's playing beforehand. Personally, I'm a little disappointed with the opening night, I would've expected stronger quests. Villalobos will be great but Sven just doesn't really do it for me when I've seen him as I feel his techno borders on the trancier, euphoric side which I just find a bit naff.

I also don't really like Amnesia.

The reasons you have said are the reasons why I like him so much. :D
I prefer his stuff more cos it has an unlifting funky edge.. If is was your normal techno all night, the minimal sort, I dount I'd be going, it just doesnt do enough for me

I HATE Amnesia for Cream and absolutely love it for Cocoon, maybe it's the crowd it attracts.
Best night on the island for me and the one I always look forward to.
 
cocoon is fantastic! :D

I love techno.. and its a techno night, so obviously i love it!

Last year was one of my favourite nights, nothing beats the sound in amnesia as well

Fair enough! It's just that he can border on the cheesier side for me. It's like being at Cream!

I'll never question your knowledge of techno :D but from what I heard last september, March just gone and his latest cd he is far more tech, dirty baselines, than what would be played at cream..

for me he is unique, very crossed over sound of house and techno, perfect :D
 
Granted Sven's sounds can be slightly more uplifting but u could never comapre it to a euphoric sound :?

I thought it bordered on trance when I saw him in 2003.

He was a lot better last year, but I still think he's over-rated. Cocoon is a quality night though and the guests are incredible, I just think he's not the greatest dj.
 
oh i see, back in 2003 i wasnt really into him to much, they were my Dave Clarke days :D

Now he's sound is pretty minimal but with some real dark riffs, when i saw him @ Fabric last month he ripped the place apart :twisted:

Indeed Cocoon nights do rock!
 
This is a stupid question, but here goes: How popular cocoon is? I'm asking, because Manumission is on the same night and it usually attracts a huge crowd (I know it's not like everyone's at manu, but anyways)...So is Amnesia really full on monday nights?
 
cocoon is VERY popular and amnesia is mostly full on monday nights, but maybe not as packed as privilege on a monday when manu is on. you still find some room to dance 8)

about sven: funky? yes, sometimes. euphoric? i never thought so. but sven always plays diverse sets - i mean if you hear him in a club one week and then you hear him at another club on the other weekend, his set (and also a bit his style) might be completely different!

Cocoon was packed when I went.

When I went last year, I was planning to go anyway, but more than passed my expectations!
