google search led me here. Any body any further suggestions for cliff diving?
we are staying in san an bay at end of june, not really interested in paying a lot of money on a cliff diving course, just want to know if there is somewhere not to far we could get our own transport to etc
Nearest is probably Cala Gracio. But cliffs are really quite high there, so don't ever jump without an experienced group or very experienced 'other'. Need to be comfortable finding your way back up too - always helps to have someone else who has done the work checking it all out show you. Some suitable places over towards Cala Conta - depending on where you are staying in San An bay, about the same distance really.
If you don't know anyone with that prior experience it's worth making the effort to hook up with a more organized group even if that's only to locate precise spots so you know for the next time. Boat captains have proven very helpful pointing out jump spots to me in the past - with the added benefit of not having to find a way back up afterwards as you get the climb nailed first
.
Last year Stivi showed me his usual spot near Cala Gracio. Although for some reason I found myself quietly dealing with a dose of my old adversary, Mr "feck-off I'm terrified of heights and shouldn't be here doing this" combo of latent nausea, panic and shakes. With no medicinal contribution to said condition
.
Although I've gone through with 3 skydives, paragliding and a load of cliff jumping over the years, I suffer on and off from recurrent
terror of heights, which seems to depend on nothing more than how I feel that day. Even now, some days I feel panic at the top of a ladder other days I am fine. This time, probably due to insufficient "commitment" upon parting company with terra firma, I managed to hit the water in a poor position from a significant enough height, get well & truly winded (ain't the best when you're treading water physically unable to take a breath after jumping tbh) and somehow - as it turned out - crack a rib to boot
.
Determined deployment of 'Mind over Body' tactics helped me to relatively quickly start breathing again, swim in and climb back up the cliff - and still found the whole thing rewarding enough despite a few weeks of pain to follow. But was a reminder that it takes just a fraction of a second to make a slight mistake or poor decision, or a bit of bad luck, and was good to be with someone with the experience and good judgement to properly help me if I hadn't managed to 'recover myself' so quickly
. Higher jumps aren't to be done without having enough of your bases covered if something doesn't go quite according to plan. Have fun but jump safe
