does anyone no the limit on the amount of cigarettes you can bring back to the UK?

i fancy making some money by sellin them to my brother and his mates :D

There is no black & white limit, but they must be for personal consumption

..and I think selling them to your brother and his mates might just fall outside of that criteria

:lol:

I've been stopped with 2600 in my bag, but as long as you say they are for personal consumption they can't do anything. They have a guide line of a recommended maximum, which is around about that amount, but it is actually illegal for them to say there is a limit.
We are talking about between EU countries by the way, otherwise it's only 200 per adult.

It's still for personal consumption, no one has to know it's for your brother's and friends' personal consumption.

Or you could say it's for your personal consumption. Give up smoking the following day, and get rid of it by "giving the away" to your brother.

Are you sure it's 200? I thought it was 400. I've brought 2 cartons into the UK no problem (on a non-EU flight).... don't remember if I got checked though. I also always take a pack out since I've usually got a pack in my pocket.

Nope, it went up 2 years ago to I think 2000. The year before it was just 400.
I was talking about if you're travelling from non-EU (i.e. Russia, where my cigs cost me one pound per pack and from where I always bring cigs with me when I visit London).

From EU countries its 3,200 (16 sleeves) and I think it's plus 3 kilos of hand rolling tobacco. For your own personal use of course. ;)

I bring back 16 sleeves every flight from Spain or Ibiza (pays for the flights). ;)

Didn't bother buying them in Berlin, too expensive.

Duty Free Allowance / Tax Free Allowance

When travelling from the EU* to the UK you do not have to pay any tax or duty on goods you have bought in another EU country as long as tax was included in the price when you purchased the items, the items are for your own use, and have been transported to the UK by you. This includes gifts, but does not include any item that is intended to be used as payment or to be resold.

If you bring back large quantities of alcohol or tobacco, a Customs Officer is more likely to ask about the purposes for which you hold the goods. This will most likely be the case if you appear at the airport with more than:

* 3200 cigarettes
* 400 cigarillos
* 200 cigars
* 3 kg of smoking tobacco
* 110 litres of beer
* 10 litres of spirits
* 90 litres of wine
* 20 litres of fortified wine i.e.: port or sherry

* The EU countries currently include: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Irish Republic, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain (but not the Canary Islands), Sweden and the United Kingdom (but not the Channel Islands).

When travelling from outside the EU to the UK you are allowed to bring in the following, provided you travel with the items and do not intend to sell them.

* 200 cigarettes; or 100 cigarillos; or 50 cigars; or 250 gms of tobacco
* 2 litres of still table wine
* 1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% volume; or 2 litres of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs
* 60cc/ml of perfume
* 250cc/ml of toilet water
* £145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs
