Friday topic of discussion :D

What did you want to be when you grew up? What do you still want to be when you grow up?!! Did you have a childhood dream / ambition and have you managed to fulfil it?

This can be work orientated, life ambitions, health goals etc.

Discuss :)

I wanted to be a Solicitor but I somehow ended up in Marketing  Got lost somewhere on the career path :?

Other than that I've never really had any ambitions except for being happy cos when you're happy everything else just falls into place :D

What did you want to be when you grew up?
TOTP Dancer 8O

What do you still want to be when you grow up?!!
Happy:D

Travel round the world in style & Nope, no where near it...yet

i wanted to be a rock star, wrote a song when i was about 8 haha it was a belter, think my mum has still got it!! wish i was encouraged to do it more. then i wanted to be a film director. unfortunately i've turned out to be neither :(

I so wanted to be a vet - that's all I ever used to dream about as a little girl - then I found out my market would be limited as I was/still am to a certain extent, allergic to just about everything but dogs.......

I did all my O'levels needed, biology, chemistry, physics to get into the Royal College of Veterinarian Surgeons, then realised just how hard Physics actually was.......

I was gutted......

Then, I wanted to be a librarian because I just thought you could sit around in a big quiet room reading all day...... started looking after the school library then realised I cant keep quiet for that long and got the Dewey system all mixed up and nobody could find the books they wanted.....

Then I decided I wanted to be a photographer, it was a big hobby of mine during my teenage years and used to take photos of bands etc playing in local venues through friends of mine, I loved it and I was really quite good, but I found out it was lumped in with Graphic Design when I looked at studying photography and I didnt fancy that. The parents told me I had to study a "proper" course for a "proper" job and they would only pay for me to go to college to study if that was the case....... So that was Business Studies and Secretarial Diploma course.

, I realised I am an organiser naturally and decided I would be a secretary/PA, and the rest is history really...

I love my job, and I am good at it so all's well that ends well
(but I still have an overwhelming urge to help every animal that I find and end up covered in rashes, sneezing etc for my trouble....   )

I wanted to be a Professional surfer and live in Hawaii surfing the North shore!!!

But I ended up a scientist, my love for experimenting with different chemicals has crossed over into my career in this case!!:?

At the time I wanted to be a professional surfer and got pretty close to it as I grew up in California and got all the sponsorships and even came out in a few mags which I still have to this very day, but as time went on and I was just about 18 I decided to give it all up as I wanted to move back to Europe and unfortuantely there are hardly ever any waves where I live so I kind of just forgot about that. From 18 on I was clueless in what I wanted to do so I did all sorts of odd jobs everything from carpentry to IT, and finally just a few years ago I found what I truly like to do which is paint (not art kind, painting houses etc) and its what I'm still doing to this very day and I have nothing to complain about as I am my own boss and work the days/hours I want and earn a pretty decent wage, not to mention I get to take any holidays I want etc, so you could say the fringe benefits are amazing lol8)

I wanted to be a vet - but then didn't want to have to put animals to sleep or my arm up a cow!

Then I wanted to be a pop star  still do

professional footballer...........

could have turned pro but wouldn't have really made a career/living from it, so in that case my childhood ambition was actually.........

premiership footballer:?

Omg now that is a coincidence :D

I wanted to be a vet too... but sadly, science is not my thing!

So Ive become a pre-press/graphic designer instead.

Still good, but I would love to work with animals too.

Yeah creepy, you should have moved to Wales we get pretty decent waves here on the west coast but you need a wet suit!!
Strangely enough and this is freaky, I actually lived in Cardiff for 3 months but wasn't surfing at the time as the water there is insanely cold and I heard even in a 6/4 steamer with booties, glooves, and hood its still freezing! I avoided even surfing in Santa Cruz when I lived back in Cali because I'm a wimp when it comes to cold cold water :D

My my.. so many veteranarian wannabes around here!

I wanted to be a politician and become governor of the state of Virginia and then the first black president of the US of A.

Realized that wasn't happening and decided to be a psychiatrist.

Got sideswiped by biochemistry in university and switched to political science as a concentration with a view towards becoming an attorney.

Moved overseas during what was supposed to be a couple of gap years before going to graduate school for law and never went home!

Now I want to be a rock star when I grow up 8)

I think the cold thing is due to age I remember just running into the sea around me in just my Y-fronts when I was a little boy nowa days it takes me a while to build up the courage to dip my toes in the sea in Ibiza!!!

I still have my board and try to pop down when I have time and the waves are right, but due to the demands of work that doesnt happen that often these days

Perhaps we should all update. For me, it´s changed radically. I´ve sold out my business and am doing what I said I initially wanted to - journalism. I´m living in Ibiza doing some freelance writing for this very site. (This week I´m also running Sunday morning at WLS at Space for Mulletover, while the chaps who own the brand are away.8O8) )

Wow, so you sold out!

TBH at the moment, i feel like doing the same :(

My job pays heaps but the stress is getting beyond comprehension.

Wishing now i'd stuck to architecture or writing computer/video games.

Idiot!

OMG You are the one who got that job you jammy git! It would have been my dream job, if only I didnt have so much baggage to get rid of first!

Anyway my dream when I was young was to be a dancer... I danced from the ages of 4-14 until I discovered boys, smoking and alcohol  Then when I was 20 I finally woke up from the slumber that was going out raving twice a week and realised my dream had passed me by

I'm now too old and out of practice to ever achieve that so I'll have to make do with my second love... writing

As some of you can probably tell this post is a thinly disguised career advice thread for myself. I'm considering giving up accounts and moving into something a bit more creative.... but I'm scared 8O
