Child seats in Hire Cars ?

Hi All

Just wondered if it was possible to get child seats in hire cars booked on the Island ?

We will have a nine month baby with us in 06 but need a car to get aroud the island if possible.

If we need to I guess we could take one with us but we will already have prams, travel cots etc etc so it would be great not to have to bother.

Terrier, childs must travel in car in their own sit and you get a fine if they not. I imagine car rentals must have travel sits for costumers but why not emailing them?

Terrier,

pretty much all car hire places will give you the option to book a child seat along with your car reservation.

some will charge you a fee or an extra rate per day (scandalous!!) but others make no charge.

Last time I went I used www.carjet.co.uk who are a 'buy in bulk for cheap and sell on at a reduced rate' type of org (i.e. so you still use hertz, avis, etc). carjet didn't charge for the carseat.

my honest advice is don't pay extra for a child seat, there are plenty of places to hire a car where a free child seat is included

Do NOT, I say again, DO NOT use Carjet - they are cheap but they don't have their own cars but use an agent called HyperRent who have an office away from the airport and it can take you literally several hours to get sorted - not ideal standing in a queue in the sun with a baby.
As previously mentioned, all hire companies offer child seats.

I have booked two cars this year, one in May through Europcar but through Portland where it is cheaper and one through First Choice for July who use Avis or Centauro both of which I have used before but this year it is cheaper through the holiday company rather than booking direct.

I only had one flight to go for or I would have been still playing one company off against another - you should be able to save at least a hundred pound per booking if you try hard enough and certainly ask for a free child seat - just say another company has offered it and most will price match, 20 years experience says so!

i know carjet aren't exactly going to win awards for high quality but in over 10 times of using them, I've never experienced any problems. i know you say its away from the airport but 100 metres across from the airport (and you get a lift - no waiting) is hardly a consideration.

i've never had to wait more than 20 mins and last time i went it was first week of august. it actually took a lot longer (1hr) with europcar when i went in may last year, in fact despite my booking and having confirmed ahead, the office had closed early and I had to use hyperRent instead:?.

horses for courses i suppose, as i said carjet are no frills to the max but if thats all you want then it suits.

Thats fair comment grego - I used HyperRent several times dating back to when they had an old shed but last year the queues were awful and I had to wait nearly an hour with the same at the end of the holiday just to drop the car off. Others reported quesues of up to four hours standing in the sun. Now I check with all hire companies - I think Carjet is the main one - if they use a local agent and if so which one - if it's hyper I go elsewhere.
You pays yer money ..........................................

or as in the case of carjet..................
......you pay peanuts you get...........(service wise anyway).

the return thing is ridiculous i agree cos if you are returning the car during the night (like i have most times), then you just park the car in the airport carpark and drop the keys through another car's open window - no waiting.:?

Yep, that white car with the window slightly open would be heaven sent to the local hoolies in England
