Cheesey clubs in Shoreditch

Is there such a thing?! lol

Basically, it's my birthday in about a month and I'm thinking of having some drinks in the Shoreditch/Hoxton area. I know there's lots of nice bars around there for drinking, but I'm wondering if there are any actual clubs that go on until around 3am if we want to carry on drinking.

Bear in mind most of my friends there will be non-clubbing types so although I'd love to dive into some dirty warehouse playing techno, I don't think it's quite appropriate

Anyone know of any half decent clubs that aren't too expensive, playing anything from pop, disco, chart stuff??

God that's a tough one!

I'll have an ask around for you. ;)

Shoreditch is always lovely on Fri and Sun but AWFUL on Sat.

If all else fails then head to Hoxton Bar & Grill or Zigfrid as both are of a nice size and easy to socialise in without being engulfed by speakers.

Sorry not much help eh? :?

I was going to suggest Hoxton bar and grill. Whilst they don't play take that or spice girls, the do play all the common funk and soul classics that everyone knows. Sounds perfect for what you are after really, been there a few times with my old uni pals and it's one of those places that pleases everyone. it's all quite bright, clean but still looks trendy to the untrained eye

It's very much more Clapham than you're traditional shoreditch crowd.

Not too keen on zigfrieds myself, far too many of either genuine out and out wierdo's or people from essex still clinging on to the dream of being mistaken for pete doherty.

Yeah...started my night off at Hoxton B&G on Fri....playing exactly that....funk/soul classics.....was actually quite good fun!

Though if you looking for pure cheese look no further than Aquarium....though on 2nd thoughts probs not - they have nights like Carwash on a Sat night - ive never seen so many drunk slappers in my life as the q for carwash (note to self: must check out :lol:)

You could go to somewhere like Medicine Bar nearer Old St or even Favela Chic, though the music will be Brazillian there I guess

Whereabouts is Hoxton Bar and Grill? Is it in Hoxton Square?

Anyone know what time it's open until?

Yup, Hoxton Sq...great venue (and as a sideline it's amazing on sunday nights).

Think it's open till 2.

I dont think I look freaky enough to get into Boombox! Not that ive ever tried. Heard big things about it though and looks v. fun whenever I walk by on a Sun night

It's not always.

When all the original Golf Sale crowd are in, it's fun, fun, fun and really one of those 'I was there' places that everyone will be talking about in years to come.

...but sometimes it's like Anti Social (now rip thank god) and can be overrun with try hards and fashion student kids. I've run away screaming as much as I've enjoyed myself. It's very hit & miss.

The birthday was fun - Roisin Murphy launched Overpowered there. 8)

Golf Sale crowd??

Yes not a fan or try hards....they try too hard!!

Hmm....will give it a go over the xmas period I think

Golf Sale = pre boombox & family.

Same promoter but a sillier, funnier venture. Mariah Carey's 'all I want it Christmas' in June (:!:) next to Technotronic and loads of electro thrown in for good measure.

Trannies falling over and screaming everywhere. It was brilliant! 8O:lol:

Boombox is so serious and rubbish in comparison.

Has anyone got the website for Hoxton Bar and Grill? And is it the same as Hoxton Bar and Kitchen?

I'm keen to go here first for drinks (even though I have read some bad reviews!) but still not sure where to go afterwards...

Where can we go that we can actually DANCE? But to tunes that most people will have heard of?

It's a shame you're not having it a week later Bec (and wouldn't mind not having it in Shoreditch!) - I'm playing (hopefully with Rob!) at a bar near Southwark on the 12th for another mates birthday - and that'd definitely be music you could dance to!;)

You can dance there....they have a big room that is basically a dancefloor....yes it is the same as Hoxton Bar & Kitchen

Like I suggested Medicine Bar is an option....depemds how CHEESY you want to go!

And then there are the real cheesfests closer to Liverpool St - though they are normally for the post work city crowd so not sure what they would be like on a weekend - Digress and Abacus come to mind :oops:
