Urban In Ibiza artists Inkie and Fin Dac were doing live paint at the hotel as a warm up for today at Atzaro, which got the attention of a lot of people on one of the greatest events of the summer.
Last night saw the debut of Monsta at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, who will repeat this saturday as part of BBC Radio 1's Ibiza Weekend.
The London dubstep trio (producers Rocky and Rufio with vocals from frontman Skaar) has released a couple of EP's on OWSLA, the record label co-owned by Skrillex that put them on the spotlight. For unknown reasons only two of the members turned up (one of the producers and, much later, the vocalist) for a set that included their most popular songs "Holdin' on", with which they started, and "Messiah".
A good way to warm up but, as some people commented, it would've been more appropriate for We Are Rockstars.
Chase & Status played at Ibiza Rocks in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and it's always exciting to see them live again, even better than just doing dj sets as they regularly do on the island for other promoters. Saul "Chase" Milton and Will "Status" Kennard put up great shows along with MC Rage but is when they play with renowned session drummer Andy Gangadeen when their performances have that something extra that makes them special.
Since the last time we saw them the band responsible for bringing drum'n'bass to the masses has released the singles "Big Man" and "Lost & Not Found" in advance of the third album Brand New Machine that will be out at the beginning of october. Apart from "Lost & Not Found" with Louis M^ttrs on vocals, they also premiered another new one called "Heaven Knows" with Elli Ingram. Between the predictable start with "No Problem" and "Eastern Jam" and end with their biggest hit "Blind Faith" with Liam Bailey and "Fool Yourself" we heard the inevitable "Time", "End Credits" and "Let You Go" among others plus a cover of "Killing In The Name". The crowd got involved and we witnessed the biggest mosh pits since... er, since the last time they played here!
Brilliant as usual and we never get tired of seeing them. A hot, sweaty and exhausting gig... just the way it has to be!
On a curious note, Miles Kane (who played at Ibiza Rocks Bar's 3rd anniversary last saturday) was in the VVIP enjoying Chase & Status. Wouldn't be nice to see him and his band in that stage next year?!
Plenty of pics to be posted later, along with the setlist of the headliners and other bits and bobs...
