Champions League

i have a horrible feeling that given milan were originally banned from the competition, that their form is some kind of reverse karma and they are perhaps destined to win it... not if we have anything to do with it mind.

Interesting definition of stalemate there... Seeing as Chelsea scored twice without reply during the second half!!!

??????

now then soft lad! not as in no goals were scored but as in every other way of describing your traditional stalemate, as in the game was poor and there were very few chances.

what i said above about goals puts my comment into context. chelsea achieved a great victory/result and their performance was hailed as great based on this. if performance is winning then that's correct, if performance is playing well then it's not.

sorry but the equivalent of sh!t was that dross at Anfield last night!

yeah but the difference is that real football fans already know we are sh!t and dull and boring.

there are some teams equally as bad as us in that respect but are just better at winning!

btw did I mention that man u were stuffy on tues night?? :D ;)

Grego - agree with you on the Man U match but totally disagree on Chelsea (as you might expect). First half, true, the Blues were timid and Valencia cautious aside from their 3 beautiful counter-attacks (hit the post, scored, cleared). Second half was totally dominated by Chelsea (soooo glad Joe Cole and Essien are back!) and had the goalkeeper not been in great form it would have ended 4-1. Still, 2-1 was a great result and I found the match quite entertaining.

As for the semis, I couldn't call it at this point. I think all 4 teams have about equal chance of going through.

The prospect of a Chelsea-Man U 2-week 3-trophy showdown series is somewhat intriguing....

What about Spurs tonight?

chelsea were better than valencia but dominating territory and possession means nothing if the opposition allows you to do that. if anything it was easier for them to defend the 18yd line than higher up the pitch.

well done chelski;) for making sure that tactic backfired on them

Yes, but Valencia's strategy (defend deep, counter-attack) didn't change from the first half to the second half. There was a big difference in Chelsea's performance, however, which is why I'd say the 2nd half improvement was more than just Valencia's strategy backfiring.

The big question now is, will Liverpool use the same strategy in the semis :?:

what about it...

2nd time in a month, BIG Game, too slow out of the blocks. When the pressure is off, we normally come storming out with slick flowing football like we did at home against Bolton.

Dont know why Jol Played Chimbonda as a left back, and Tainio on the right, thats 2 players out of position...

Just what does Jenas do?

Sevilla controlled the game with their constant falling over, and over the 2 legs we had 2 soft refs.

Still, 2 Quarters and 1 semi more than what we achieved last year so im happy. if we finish up in Uefa Cup again, thats progress, but we need to build on squad for next year.

need 2 genuine leftsided midfield players, and someone in the centre of midfield to create some kind of spark!

apart from that well done seville, who play some great football, when they aint hitting the deck like a bunch of fairies. ;)

i dunno really, we're a better team than we were 2 years ago (individually and collectively) and we've also beaten you a couple of times since then, as well as a couple of bore draws and a couple of defeats.

i think we'll be solid but we don't tend to be very backs to the wall anymore.............against fcb home and away (apart from last 10 mins at anfield), recent games against chelsea, man utd.......we've not really played like that.

Agreed.. specially that Alves, he's a great player but can be sooo annoying!!

he did it against someone in a league match a few weeks ago at the end of the game and got the player sent off. no need for it.........he'd need to sort that out if he did end coming to the prem.

puerta looks tasty ferd, has he made it into la selección yet.

I think if he came here the whole anti-diving culture would eventually make him stop.

Puerta is excellent.. I was annoyed he played left back yesterday as he's a better winger than a defender (well thats what i thought yesterday until I saw he kept Lennon quiet!)
He's got 2 caps, but will soon have more though, he's got a great future. I was surprised Navas didnt play yesterday, another good young spanish winger.

yeah he's miles better than pernia (has he even played since the world cup.....weird that whole thing with him)

I agree Liverpool is a better team than 2 years ago (Chelsea... maybe better, maybe not). Still not convinced about your strikers but that hasn't stopped you from scoring. Nevertheless, if you score first, I still think you'll shut up shop and only venture out on the counter (** at Stamford Bridge)

It's a pretty even match-up. Either team could win on their day, as recent matches have shown. Liverpool won in the league this year, so perhaps it's our turn in a cup semi!
