Hello folks,

Just wandering what the story was with thefts on the island this year? Know there was alot of it going on last year and did hear it had happened on numerous occasions at Catalina where im staying in September?

Was also planning to Email the hotel prior to going out requesting a room with a sea view! Does anyone have the Email address for the Catalina and has anyone ever made this request before?

It happened to me a few years ago.

We got back slaughtered at 5 in the morning and sparked out. I think we forgot to lock the door and someone came in while we were asleep. They took a weird array of stuff.

toothpaste
my deoderant and aftershave
razor
foam
one t-shirt and a bunch of global underground cd's

seems to me we were robbed by a smelly clubber who needed a shave and a freshen up while listening to some good tunes.


I had to say that i did laugh about it mostly...
 
catalina is cool, wicked location, friendly staff and far away from the westendto enjoy san an. stayed there several times and never had any trouble. Id stay there everytime without a doubt 1 tip avoid the hostel adelino !

Because most of the bad reviews I have read have been in the the last 2 seasons?

Bad place in my opinion...
i know alot of people whove been robbed there which makes me think perhaps the security could be dodgy

alot of workers i know stayed there and had to move out because of the dodgy people it was attracting...

Its a shame cos the location is top, and it would interest me if they could sort security.

Unfortuantely, they cant, and this season appears to be the worst yet for crime there

Whats the story on the hostel adelino??
 
Adelino has a poor reputation as one of the hostels that the looky looky guys and prostitutes stay in.

I read a review a few weeks back of one of the looky looky dealers running his operation out of a room there so all sorts of nasty types around your rooms including hookers and dealers and the problems they bring.

One to avoid id say mate...
 
Really starting to get a bit worried about the reputation of the Catalina - its a place ive wanted to stay at for a while now because of its location and im shocked all this goings on has been happening there.

Its a bit worrying your belongings arent even deemend safe in the safety deposit boxes in the hotel.

May use a friends safety box who is staying in a hotel near by for things such as travellers cheques etc.
 
Im with you on that marko, i wanted to stay there this year in september purely for the beuty of the location. it also has air con so it would be nice.

However ive heard so many bad stories. Almost everyone i know who has stayed there knows someone who got robbed. Its blatently an inside operation that i guess is probably looked after by some less scrupulous workers that need cash quick. Remember that the catalina is used by alot of workers.

I decided against it and went for a place in the Bay... phuck chancing my belongings and cash just for a location, know what i mean?

You'll also note that they will not insure you in the safety deposit boxes - that speaks volumes.
 
My advice is to take a couple of disposable camera's instead of an expensive one, no jewellery and your cash card and always keep your wallet with you.

If they go nicking ya clothes and toiletries that's just bad luck!
