Whilst in Palma last week i went to a few Carrefour supermarkets and was very impressed. When in Ibiza last week someone said there was one being built next to the cinema on the outskirts of ibiza town.

Is this true??? If so residents and tourists alike will be able to buy a decent selection of goods at a cheap price. Hiper Centro and SYP beware!

that would be in our new shopping centre.......

the developer (matutes) is keeping the list of companies who will occupy the units there a closely guarded secret, however carrefour is a name i'd heard whispered....

we're all hoping that some of the big national retailers, zara, el corte ingles, etc will take up residence, if only to shake up the rest of our island retailers from their complacency and take it or leave it attitude to customers.

oh, and also to give us a bit more choice.
visitors to ibiza cant have failed to notice the wide choice of
perfumes
mobile phones
ladies underwear
spectacles
sports casual wear

on offer in every other shop.

I think this means they haven't rented them yet!

Fingers crossed for some decent shops! i couldn't believe how good the shopping was in Mallorca compared to Ibiza.

taken from yesterdays 'Ibiza Sun'

"New Supermarkets Blocked.

Using the excuse that they would create too much competition & damage existing commerce in the area, the Balearic Government's Industry Ministry has blocked the application to open a LIDOL supermarket on the outskirts of Sant Antoni & a CAPRABO supermarket on the outskirts of Ibiza Town. The same authority has however given permission for a new SYP supermarket to open along the Ibiza to Sant Josep road. "

Too much competition!!!!! sounds like back handers from SYP to me!

Shame as 'Caprabo' is far better than Syp

Carrefour are good but sometimes a little too big....I can just see a whole load of post club brits searching for munchies lost for hours in the pastries section!!

and finally caprabo also got the permit to open..........

The Zara shop is actually going to be on Calle Batomeu Vincente Ramon stretching back to Calle Joan D'Austria.
I doubt if they will be open this season though, as the site is still pretty much a building site.

i think that the syp on the via punica is the worst shop on the planet. inefficiency has reached new heights there thanks to the lazy disinterested staff and the music is terrible!
