Not sure about the name of that tax.

But what we noticed alot of them are doing is giving you the car full and making you bring the car back empty! We don't like that at all, find it a bit of a rip off as they then charge you about 90 euros for the tank of petrol, regardless of whether you use a whole tank or not.

We got stung earlier in the year, so the next time I checked all the small print really carefully and called the company in advance. Europcar don't do it as standard but will offer you it, and you don't have to take it, as far as I'm aware all the others do it, although I also know a great car hire company in Es Cana that don't do this, let me know if you want their details.

Have a great trip

Was going to say the exact same thing - Car Hire Place in Es Cana are very reputable and can be found near the Coral Playa/Beach Hotel

thanks for replies more welcome

Thanks for the replies ,the fuel con trick has been going on for the last 10 years as I know too as I have always hired a car , some hirers ask if you want to bring it back full and dont charge you, but others just say bring back empty and charge your credit card for a full tank , cost depending on car and size of tank ( the norm is full to empty ) I have always though the money they make with that must be unbelievable , but they have us by the short and curles with that

as for other tricks they say you are fully insured but there is always a excess to pay if you have a bump or damage done to the car ,, you can now buy insurance to protect your excess rougly works out £40 a year if hiring for more than 7 days its worth it
to name a few

I too have stayed in the Riviera in San An Bay, and both the Coral Playa and Caribe in Es Cana - Think the Coral Playa is the Coral Beach now though.
