we rented a car a few weeks back from the airport and took insurance out as i always do.

unfortunatley we crashed it but thought it would be ok as we were insured. Apparantly the wheels ,underneath the car ,the roof and the windows are not covered and my card was charged £2000 when i got home.

anyone else had this problem?????

I pay £50 per year to Insurance4carhire.com -

Your car rental agreement normally includes cover for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft. However you are still liable for the Excess on CDW and Theft. When a rental car is damaged or stolen, the driver is asked to pay the first portion of the repair or replacement costs. This is known as the Excess.

Insurance4carhire covers you not only for the total amount of Excess for which you are liable if the car is damaged or stolen, but also for damage to the roof and undercarriage of the car, and windows and tyres.

Got to be worth it !

Every time I've rented in Ibiza, they've told me right away that you're not covered for the undercarriage, wheels and windows (in case of theft, i.e. someone breaks in to steal your visible expensive trinkets). I hadn't heard of roof before, but I suppose that make sense. It would be odd if you weren't told in advance or if it's not on your rental agreement (yes, it pays to scan through those documents!)

If you've got good credit, you can get a gold or platinum credit card. I've got a platinum card which provides full insurance coverage, as long as you pay for your rental with the card, at no extra charge.

they charged us and extra £50 and there was nothing wrong with it and it had over half full petrol :x

You're supposed to return with a full tank of petrol. If not, they charge you for the whole tank.

We paid the excess of 500 euros while we were out there. They took the rest off the card when we got home.

Anyway it could have been worse. At least im still alive.

I dont see what your getting at here????????????????
it shouldn´t be too difficult to understand, that if you "took insurance out",
there is no reason to whine, when there is noone (=no insurance) left
to pay for your accident !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most carrentalagencies offer insurance with all damages included,
they only try to charge you a few extraeuros per day
to cover damages at tires/glass/underbody too.

Why is there no reason to whine? Do you understand what 'took insurance out' even means?

"Took insurance out' means you HAVE insurance!!

btw a couple of years ago, I had a charge on my car. It was only for a 100 euro or something. They said everything was fine when I dropped the car off, then after I got a charge on my visa bill. They said there was a dent in the left hand side of the car.. but I still had my original copy which showed that the dent was there previously. I tried scanning a copy in and showing them that it was already there. They responded to me saying that my email to them caused their computer department to fail  .

I tried for months to contact thm, then just gave up.

Morbyd is right about the credit card. I now have a 'gold' credit card which covers insurance for any car hire.

s.hit - sorry - i just looked in the dictionary ... i thought it would mean that you
said "no" when they asked you if you want insurance or not ...

normally they ask you if you want to take out additional insurance
to cover all possible costs of a damage ... i heard that some smaller carrentals
tried to charge different customers for the same old damage.

friends had to bring their car back very early in the morning when the rental-
station was closed so that they couldn´t do the carcheck together with the rentalagent.
later their creditcard was charged for underbody-damage and they couldn´t
do anything about it.
