car hire for 18 year olds

My 18 year old son and his 4 pals are joining me for a week in August, 3 of them have UK driving licenses. I have checked on here and other sites but can't find a car hire firm that would let them hire because of there age, I would much rather they were in a car than on a scooter or quad, saw an accident only 2 days ago with a body on the side of the road. Hope he is ok.
Anyone know a hire company that would deal with 18 year olds?

Very much doubt any of the car hire companies would go with it even if you assume a huge excess - as far as I know the minimum age is more like 23 (21 at the very least).

If they've been driving for years (e.g. lived abroad - I was behind a wheel from about 13 ..) can understand must be frustrating but I wouldn't personally drive in Ibiza in August nowadays without around 5 years + experience, preferably more (very very bad driving especially in/around San Antonio, Platya d'en Bossa and Ibiza Town, cars overtaking on bends in the country, nightmarish parking manoeuvers etc etc..).

Regardless of fault, if there is a prang there'll inevitably be a whole heap of grief with the authorities and even more so if someone gets hurt (with your son/his pals behind the wheel). Also, in August a considerable % of people on the roads are over the limit or on drugs of some kind - not an ideal scenario for teenagers to be driving in on the whole....

Scooters can also be very dangerous when it's busy - I have to agree possibly even more so than cars. Quads possibly the best compromise if you want them to have their own wheels and they are mature for their years ? At least they're more 'visible'..

Else lifts from Dad (), buses or taxis. A bit long this ramble, isn't it ? :) Seriously, don't put them on the roads in a car outside the cool season until they're more experienced !

With the greatest respect letting 18 year olds drive in Ibiza during high season is madness. Use the cash saved on the potential hire car for buses or cabs.

looks like it will be me doing a bit of running around then!
Does anyone know if cabs take 5 people?
Also, do buses stop on country lanes if you want them to or only at official stops.
After have a house here for over a decade I have just realised I have never got a bus, might give it a try.

You can get 6 seaters quite easily.

do you know how buses work on country roads? Do you flag them down to get them to stop or do you have to find the nearest bus stop?

I have been in a people carrier type taxi from the airport before but it was only cos it had a huge boot and I had huge luggage ( god bless British Airways, they will take anything!), the other drivers ushered me in to it in fear I might try and cram my gear into their boot!
That said, there was only two of us so could be a limit of 4. I will look out next time I go to town.
