Can ES PARADIS ever be good again?

When I first started going to Ibiza, es Paradise has some good nights on with good dj's, I remember Paul Oakenfold and Sasha playing! Its been a long time since Es Paradise has seen any decent nights IMO, and any big name djs. Now I think it is a beautiful club, on a par with pacha, but I guess its location (near the Westend) and the type of people it attracts is its downfall in being a ‘cool' club.
Can it ever be good again like the days of Clockwork Orange?
Would a party that attracted big name djs still work there, something like All gone Pete tong? I never went to Wonderland when it was at Eden, so don't know if that was a fail or not?
Is San Antonio just not suited to decent club promoters anymore?

they attracted interesting DJs for Colors last year - tho reports are it was quiet

Having Hed Kandi is a big name

IMO Es Paradis are holding their own, whilst Eden seem to be floundering

Colors did have some good Trance DJs on away from the mainstream artists which was really good to see. It was very quiet though on the occasions i went.
ASOT, Cream and Judgement taking the main crowd and a fourth trance night may have just been a bit too much.

I take it Colors isn't returning this year?

I think the club has a great niche if the prices are alright, suits those who want to go to a 'proper' club away from the West End, but don't want to pay the extra to go to one of the bigger clubs across the island. Just relies on having the right acts and the right prices to draw people away from the West End. It's a shame really, the sort who tend to frequent that area are the ones who'd happily listen to a 'Now that's what I call music 237' CD all night, and that will probably reflect in some of the artists they attempt to bring in.

^ This.

The days of Es Paradis being able to charge €25+ for admission is over. The sooner they realise this, the better. They don't need to invest in huge names - a few fairly well known PAs & DJ will be enough. Free admission early doors, then staggered admission pricing the rest of the night, but never more than €15.

Their drinks prices are generally cheaper than Pacha, Space, Amnesia etc anyway, but still far too expensive when the West End is on your doorstep.

They need a happy medium. People (even the kids who frequent the West End) do want to end their night in a club - they don't want to spend the whole time on the strip in sub-par bars - but they have next to no choice when there is this huge gulf in pricing between the bars and the clubs. Why spend €60+ on a night out in Eden or Es Paradis, when for a little more you can spend it elsewhere on the island and see acts that have real pulling power? It's a no brainer.

Alex Kunnari's (Colors-promoter/dj) facebook statement is promising, but we'll see...:
"Last year Alex Kunnari's Ibiza 2012 Summer Season Events looked like this..<pic-of-colors-ibiza-lineup> and soon we will have some good news to all of you.. ; )"

I hope so! It had a great line-up with some more interesting trance DJs, however I'm embarrassed to say I was out there all summer and never made it to one :(

Es Paradis is a Spanish Club located in the middle of a popular British resort. Its caught in a no mans land of cultures. Locals may not pack out the place like they do Privilege, Space or Pacha because San An, during tourist season, has a certain image in their heads. The Fiesta Del Aguas is a great example of a good Spanish party, the original Mediterranean summer party, and one of the few left in the World.

As its locally owned and managed, they have a different outlook on things there. Big name DJ's with high prices were never popular. They are very selective about the parties they want associated with the venue and I thinks fair dues to them..they are reflecting a certain image and standing by it.

For me its my favourite club in Ibiza and one of the most beautiful in the World. Its a growing garden inside and the roof was designed with glass so that sunlight could get in to grow the plants there. Its quintessentially Ibiza.

Put a big name DJ in there and yes they would pack it out, but the Club itself may not want to go that direction. Some promoters may also be afraid of how the acoustics work in the club.

With Eden now up for Sale and very unlikely to reopen as a club, it may help Es Paradis. Like the owners, I would not like to see it change too much, its time will come again.

This was the first club I went to in Ibiza back in 1994. I remember it being free entry (it was at the end of the season) and was shocked that I paid £8 for two gin and tonics!!!!

I have only been back there once in 1998, but in my opinion has a fantastic feel about the place and I have thought that it deserved better over the past few years. It would need a good mix of people and some better quality music to get me through the doors these days however. Those chandelier lights in the centre are timeless.

Would be a great club for a Classics night??? alas, these are few and far between in a musically forward thinking island.

Slightly (ever so) off topic - Does the "Judge" have a finger in the Eden / Kanya empire?

+1

i thought es paradis was managed by an english bloke. i forget his name.

Good one :) ....

Expect more of those amnesia episodes at your age.....

I've never been to a fiesta del aqua, I might be a bit old for it now though, but generally what is the music played, is it commercial dance/pop or more house?

I try and make it every year. Its not about the music more about the experience. Music is commercial house, light and fun but its predominately house.

One for the "must do" lists for any holidaymaker in Ibiza I would say....

Love this old old picture of the place, would of loved to have gone back when it was open air, same goes for Ku and Amnesia!
