here's all the info :D

BBC Ican - Campaign for Underground House Music on Radio 1

WHAT WE WANT:
A weekly, specialist show on Radio 1 showcasing the best in quality, forward thinking, Underground House Music. Each week the show would feature a different, internationally renowned guest DJ.

WHY WE WANT IT:
Since the demise of the Super Club and the big room sound there has been a noticeable resurgence of quality Underground House Music and events across the UK. Even here on the Internet the Underground House Community is making its mark with our Undergroundhouse.net website becoming the largest house music community and listening station on the net with full support of the music industry within just two years. All despite the fact that this music is often not considered mainstream enough for a regular national radio audience. This is all about giving proper exposure to quality, Underground House dj's artists and labels who have earned it with a consistent commitment to quality, forward thinking music. This isn't about what has the best PR or what is perceived to be popular; this is about the best in Underground House music getting the respect it deserves

someone did one of these for hard house and got a show after 5000 votes. I think we can beat that.

you can either register and vote which means you can leave comments in the campaign diary or you can just vote anonymously.

Help us spread the word by forwarding this message to your email lists, posting it on Message boards and linking the voting form on your websites, every vote counts!

Got to say .. Not sure I'd want underground house played to the masses ! Not that it would make it utterly commercial, because there will always be an underground music scene of some sort, but nooooo ...

good music is to be shared and exposing the music that we know, love and dance our asses off to every weekend can only be a good thing.

we need this sort of thing to bring new people into the scene. as long as we don't dilute it for the masses its never going to mess it up.

I think it would be ace if we could get 2-3 hours on a wednesday night or something and put some proper good, no messing about house dj's on radio 1.

The days of hiding things away and covering up your labels on 12"s are long gone thank f***. Music is for sharing and communicating.
If Radio 1 did do it then I think it would need the right person to host it as it needs a balance between the funkier stuff and the more jacking electronic style, but I think that 2 or 3 hours a week at whatever time will definitely bring more people in. Today I've been on the phone to a distributor who has told me that from sales, things are looking up, and that is the best thing I've heard for a while as much of the music media has been dissing house and writing it off, even clubs like Bugged Out have decided to take a slightly different tack, and they've pretty much got rid of the house from their lineups which I feel may hurt them in the long run. The reasons why the media have put the boot in is simple, and that's because many music journalists are lazy so they will not go out and find the music, so if it's not in front of them then it's not happening. Also see Fatboy Slim and his comments recently about "house music not doing it for me anymore" - presumably it was doing it enough for you to make millions off the back of it with your own productions house and otherwise...?

For anyone that still don't believe quite how good house can be, see the new Soul Mechanik Album which has blown my head off. Stunning.
We're in a state of flux and it's in the air... "everything is changing" as a recent record stated... Support the campaign and sign up!

This sort of pseudo-exclusivity is reminiscent of suburban night clubs that don't let people in wearing trainers. ;)

First of all, I must admit that I am not a big fan of the word "Underground". The term Underground House, is somewhat necessary as it embraces all shades at this end of the House music spectrum and obviously indicates that we are not talking Hard House or Handbag. But the term underground seems somewhat invalid, now that our music can be bought or listened to with a couple of clicks of a mouse. It's there available for the world to hear and this hardly seems underground to me.

Many of us sell our music onto the open market. Therefore it is commercial as it is FOR SALE. It may not be the main purpose of our existence but when you have masterful works of House music clocking in 15,000 units and some Hard House disaster barely breaking 2,000 then where do you draw the line between underground and commercial?

So any arguments suggesting that Underground House should stay underground simply do not hold water for me. A show representing this music on a national radio station will mean that many ears will be turned to better music than what they might have listened to in the past. This should not affect your appreciation of such music. As long as the standards are not compromised via this platform then it remains as valid as it was before.

I for one, would be happy to know that my records will be appreciated in 10 or 20 years time, not just a few months. A show on Radio 1 will help our music achieve a little more cultural importance than the occassional gem in programmes about Ibiza.

Christ you lot don;t know how lucky you are.

You go back ten years and see how much club music got played before the pirates started

I don't want the beerey masses to get in on my scene!!

Actually no, that's a stupid comment! There's enough genres to go around these days, and I guess if making "underground" more available to people means that someone out there gets the satisfaction that I get from listening/dancing to it, then all's good !

no thanks.....lets keep it 'under' ground!!!

erm

this isn't about making anything any more commercial

its just about putting some decent dj's on the radio

loads of underground house dj's already do the essential mix

I don't think it will be killed commercially. Very fortunate that these days there are loads of different genres to "click" with ... many years ago, when there were only half a dozen or so, then yes, some people did jump on the band wagon of a "different" sort of music (i.e. Northern Soul) ... and it became horrendously SHIT at times ... (Wincing at the thought of Wigan's Ovation on Top Of The Pops!) ... I doubt that will happen now .. thank god !

Radio 1 is shite. End of.

If you want decent music, you can find it on any one of a huge number of internet radio stations.

dunno about "underground" on radio one... some decent house wouldnt go amiss during the day... fed up listening to Usher and Busted on repeat play while im working...

I fed up of all the repeated play period.

They have such a limited playlist, that if you listen to it for over an hour, you will just hear the same few songs over and over again. Hence why I no longer listen to Radio 1.

its choice of radio 1 or local commercial stations for me...

personally when the evil ginger bitch aint at work, i stick on talksport or any "chatty" station... even radio 2!
