Cakewalk for England, USA screwed :-(

Bloody hell... just got home from a night out and on a whim decided to check the FIFA draw for the World Cup.

England gets Paraguay, Trinidad and Sweden. Clear path to the next round.

USA has Italy and the Czech Republic. Pretty rough considering we were the 9th seed (and thus weren't seeded since only 8 teams got seeded). Not good.

Well it's not FIFA's fault you weren't considered good enough to be one of the top seeds ;) Must try harder for 2010

Must say England's group is complete piece of piss, just checking the fixture list to see how England's games fit in with June's Ibiza trip ;)

Nobody in America gives a frick about Fußball. It's a primitive sport...For christ sake, cavemen kicked around a damn ball. Kicking around a ball for hours and having the final score 0-0 is not exciting.

Can we evole into the 21st century please!

I'm kind of glad that soccer hasn't really taken off in the US, otherwise they'd have tried to change the rules to allow for TV commercials every 10 minutes.

They seeding was based on performance at the last 2 world cups plus some other coefficient. England and the USA went out in the same round in 2002, but the USA played crap in '98 which has now come back to haunt us :?

We'll have to hope that Italy play as poorly as they did in Euro 04.

I swear to god that Blatter guy is unstable. Certified lunatic!

Yes, rules are rules... and when 8 teams get seeded there'll always be an unhappy 9th team so c'est la vie.

I think we can qualify in 2nd place in the group... though we're facing the world's top 2 goalkeepers so it ain't gonna be easy!

Exactly you've just got like it and lump it, I'm sure if the seedings had gone the other way and against England there'd be some very vocal people on here moaning about it  ;)

No reason to moan now with a draw like that. But I'm sure Trinidad will provide an ample testing of England's playing skills!

I saw the UK tabloids this morning and they're all banging on as if we're already World Cup winners  (this is the same press that were saying we weren't even going to qualify a few months ago  )

You got to love our tabloid journalists

ahem.

We are ranked 8th in the world (whatever you think of their system), ranked 9th in the World Cup ranking system (based on recent performance) and made it to the quarterfinals of the last World Cup (just like England). 8)

Get your stats straight, young man. ;)

Would have been nice to end up in the France/Switzerland/Togo group, or even England's group in place of Trinidad. But you're right in that there really aren't any entirely easy groups in this competition. It is the World Cup finals, after all.

Spare a thought for the Aussies meeting Brasil in the first round 8O
Crotia and Japan are no pushovers either.

But at least Australia made the finals. That's something to be proud of ;)
