Buying a bar/ cafe bar in Ibiza

Hi there,

Along with my hubby, i am looking into buying a bar or cafe bar in Ibiza ( anywhere on the island ) although i hear the "tourist" areas of San antonio only really have 6 months good trade, then the rest of the year is quiet/ghost townly.

We would be moving out here, and getting an apartment. There are hundreds of bars for sale, and almost as many websites for costa del sol bars etc, and a few for mallorca, but i cant find any bars or businesses even on the White Isle for sale.

I have had a look on the Ibiza Spotlight Preoperty age, but there is virtually no commercial properties for sale.

Can any of your Ibiza veterans/moderators help me??

thanks so much xxxxxxxx8)

Hello!

I typed 'sale ibiza bar' into Google and got results, so I think you just have to persevere. Another thing to try would be to email estate agents on the island, explaining what you're looking for, and basically get them to do the hard work for you. If you're flexible (and have the money / confidence) you might look at going leasehold for a season, as there seem to be more of these properties available, and it would allow you to keep your own eyes peeled.

Good luck, mine's a vodka limon!

i think most bars are owned by ibicenco landlords who lease them. there are very few which actually come up for sale. as you appear to be working on 'hearsay' i imagine you have no experience of the ibiza market and system. why not try and rent (apartment and bar) for say a year to find out if you want to sink hundreds of thousands of euros into it?

one of our forum members has experience of this casper slides, perhaps a pm to him would pay dividends?

Thankyou xxxxxxx

I have just sent casperslides a message.

Thank you for your help Stephen xxxx

Hopefully i will get a few pointers from him xx

http://www.theibizasun.com/ classified`s have the odd one, Also my ex local M&M`s in Santa Eulaia is still empty, that is a straight rental, (no trespaso) but the monthly is a laugh, You are probably best to come over, have a drive round for a week or 2 and have a look about, lots of signs out at the moment, Talk to people, see which end / side of the island you want to be, There is a massive choice in different types of license`d place`s / style`s/ hours
Have a good one

hola ola!

can i echo the comments made so far, sorry to presume, but by the sound of your post, it gives the impression that you don't know the island particularly well. the comment of "anywhere on the island" particularly got alarm bells ringing because the location of the bar you buy/lease is perhaps the most critical thing of making this venture a success.

again to reiterate previous comments, either spend some time on the island really getting to know the different resorts or do as has been suggested at take on a short term lease of a bar.

many people with experience in hospitality/catering take on bars and it can be a real struggle. there are many bars that change leaseholder almost year on year.

and finally, as tim has said, the best way (and only way in my opinion) of truly looking for somewhere to lease/buy, is to be on the island, asking questions and leaving no stone unturned. the marketing for many of these places is often nothing more formal than a simple sign on the building or a tiny paragraph in amongst thousands of the classifieds page of the local newspapers.

good luck:D
