Music fetishists were out in force for this month's swinger's session; rubber, talc, wry smiles and chin stroking nerds at the ready! With my corset pulled tight, all trussed up and taking shallow wasp breaths, I submitted to the every need of my insatiable selectors. Billed as an alternative to the saccharin smugness of Valentines day, February's brief was to explore our collective limits and dig deep for a brazen playlist of nasty, no-holes-barred sonic FILTH.
To put everyone at ease, I nervously chatted about drapes and tupperware as guests coquettishly tossed their car keys into a bowl. Prudent glares filled the room, racked with Catholic guilt for crimes not yet committed…By the end of the eve, Bunker Sessions was more spent than Elizabeth Berkley in the Showgirls pool scene. Sonic sluts of every persuasion are catered for here with a soundscape of sensuous passion grinders, vulgar basement electrotrash, suicide goth ditties and jackin' acid f*** pressings.
Fittingly, ‘Non Stop Erotic Cabaret' star, Marc Almond, opens session #9, leading us on a seedy journey into the burlesque, pedalling as far back as the prohibition era of the 30's. Here, bisexual Bessie Smith makes no secret of her need for you to put some sugar in her bowl (12:23). Lest we forget, homosexuals of the era were guilty of criminal behaviour, mental illness, and a depravity so terrible that no one dared speak its name (punishments, banishment, psychotherapy and even electro-shock sessions awaited the indiscreet practitioner). Similarly, Linda Lyndell was targeted by white supremacist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan for bringing you “What a man†(5:50). Make no mistake, these badass bitches are deserving of our respect!
***Impatient lovers and those too flippant for foreplay (along with extreme biohazard, fist-pig aficionados) should skip to 1:09:50 for the proper nasty stuff.*** Anne Summers pretenders/50 Shades lightweights avert your ears when we go wrecking with our ‘Hirsute Pursuit' trump card - “I don't care if it hurts! I want it to hurt!†(1:18:31)
Being the considerate lovers we are, we couldn't leave without bringing things to an Earth shattering CLIMAX with Carl Orff's ‘Carmina Burana' (natch - 2:10:01). On the eve itself, we treated ourselves to a karaoke version on the big screen (I kid you not).
So take a breather and have a post coital cig…before we bring you crashing down with the stark reminder that no sleaze tale is complete without a follow up narrative of rage and regret. And who better to take up this mantle than 60's icon, Marianne Faithfull? (“Why d'ya do what you said? Why d'ya spit on my snatch? Are we out of love now? Is this just a bad patch?†- 2:12:25.)
We also explore darker themes such as the sometimes painful journey of self love; “I'll believe in a lie. I'll believe in myself. I'll cut off my right hand and stand in your shadow†(Swans - 1:04:39) and the deep wounding behind sexual neuroses; “You're about to experience getting seriously ****ed up in a new way you've never yet had. And once you're willing to feel that out of control and to get excited about it, dump the ****ing rubbish.†(Whitehouse - 2:08:23).
Lastly, it was Tim Burgess who stole our hearts this Valentines day with a bitter and heart wrenchingly beautiful declaration to an estranged lover (1:32:01). *sigh*
As well as peppering the session with sleazy samples from 70's porn flicks, I've also included a couple of my very own remixes (18:03). Like em? Shoot me an email and I'll supply you with WAV versions: robder@mac.com.
Awww go on - try it once…we won't tell. You may even like it! But listen safely; Bunker Sessions says do as thou wilt, but always use a condom.
In the words of Madonna (2:22:54): “Colonel Sanders says it best. Finger lickin' good!â€
